Bourbon recommendations?!?!

Ms. Koala, on March 28, 2016 at 3:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 48

Hi everyone! I asked my Pastor what he wanted to drink at our vow renewal in June and he responded with bourbon (pic below). Has anyone tried this before? Should I be adding that to our drink list for the other guests? I'm personally not a fan of bourbon and hardly drink it, so I'm looking for some input from more "experienced" brides.

PS: Love my Pastor!

    Bourbon is our favorite.

Basil Hayden is mine. Willett pot is my second. Michter's is DH all time favorite. Well besides the times he has had Pappy 20 and 23 yrs. That is so hard to get.

eta - DH also really likes Eagle Rare.

The only whiskey I've had that I've liked is Stetson or Fireball lol. I can ask my Dad and FH later for recommendations, they know more about whiskey and bourbon. (I love your pastor too btw!)

Four Roses is amazing. Also Bulliet Bourbon is also good. I have had so many different bourbon because my MS adviser loved bourbon and so does FH!

Four Roses is great but it aint cheap in a liquor for the entire group kind of way. Get him a bottle of it as a present and call it a day.

Bourbon is just a type of whiskey, so most people will readily enjoy it, but it can be on the sweeter side, as opposed to smokey, so not everyone is into it.

If you really want to surprise him, you could go for something different, like Hudson Baby Bourbon (one of my favorites) or George T Stagg (ie Buffalo Trace and the Pappy mentioned above...) (some variations are rare and expensive and if he drinks bourbon he probably knows this).

Four Roses is good, he has good taste. If you don't drink it, maybe just have a bottle set aside with the bartender especially for him?

Look it up online to see the price. if it is crazy expensive then I'd think he's assuming you're buying the bottle for him... which I can see why he might think that. I'm not asking anyone their drink preferences (even though I know what a lot of them already drink). If it's expensive just buy ask the liquor store employee for recommendations that are general crowd pleasers.

I don't know where you live or how easy you can get bourbon, but my personal favorite is makers mark, or buffalo trace.

I don't mind buying him a bottle as a gift. That's no biggie. But if it is really good I may just open up the budget some so we can share it. After all, my guests are adults and I trust they can mange their liquor.

A bottle of small batch is like $30 in ky so it might be a little more elsewhere but it's not crazy expensive

It really depends on where you buy it from. I saw a bottle of small batch Four Roses at BevMo for $75 then a couple of days later saw a bottle at Total Wine for $35. Just shop around a bit before you purchase.

Angel's Envy is my personal favorite. Goes down smoother than an expensive hooker. Lol!

Oh it's not about them handling the liquor, and its not THAT pricey, but 30 for a small bottle won't get you as far as something like Makers Mark, that everyone is equally as happy with.
