Boudoir Blackmail?

Ashley, on June 9, 2016 at 4:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 39

Sorry guys for the clickbaity title, but I don't know how else to describe this. So about 2-3 months ago, I did a boudoir photo shoot with my wedding photographer because she was offering a deal. She put the pictures on her website, but you needed a password to get to the album. I thought, perfect, no one will know except me and when my fiance gets them on our wedding day. I got the pictures back, and I'm happy with them. All I have to do is order them.

Well, this week received a message from a "Cindy Jones" and they sent me one of my pictures from my shoot! I don't if they somehow got the password, if she got hacked, or what. I'm slightly freaking out. I reported it to facebook as "sexual blackmail", because I didn't know what else to put. I didn't accept the conversation invite, hoping it will just go away. I also can't see the profile of the person who sent it. I'm scared to even order the pictures now.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Tell your photographer, they may have no idea they have been hacked.

First thing is to call the photographer and inform her about it. Chances are she got hacked, anything that is on the internet can be somehow found, a simple password protection is easy to get around and you are probably not the only one that was affected.

Were the pictures somehow connected to your FB account? Or was your full name there? How did the person find you on FB?

Whoa, that's horrifying. I'd be on the phone with the photog ASAP to find out if she has any idea what happened and to have them taken down immediately. Ask her if she will just give them to you on a USB.

Document everything. When she messaged you, when you contacted your photographer, any correspondence with FB, EVERYTHING! Also, do a Google search for your name and see if they show up there. Contact Google as well if you need to.

That's just insane and I can see why you are freaking out. Try to remain calm and make sure your photographer knows that there was a breach.

Definitely contact your photographer, that's so scary! Reporting it to facebook was a good decision as well. Hopefully this can be taken care of for you quickly.

That is insane, I am so sorry that happened, I would feel very much like you do. It totally just sounds like a hack, call the photographer right away. Good luck and I hope this just goes away real quick.

Just curious, what did your contract say?

I'm sorry you're going through this, I was super paranoid when I did mine also.

Call the photograph and let her know right away. It sounds like a hack. Order the pictures you want but have her take them down off of her website.

Yes, call the photographer. You already did the shoot, you might as well have the ohotos but ask the hosted gallery is taken down...at the end of the day it sucks and it's creepy, but they're boudoir photos, not hardcore porn....I don't see much value except to fuck with someone...the photographer needs to know, now. I hope you can get it straight.

I agree with PP - talk with your photographer, have them taken down ASAP, and ask if she'll give them to you on a thumb drive or something so you can order them. I'm so, so sorry this is happening to you!! Good luck!

I am really sorry too, hopefully your photographer has some answers. I would want them taken down ASAP since clearly they are not as protected as you thought.....

^ no, approach it businesslike and direct, there's no need for that. I'm sure the photographer will be upset too and will make it right.

Idk how you managed to just email your photographer. I would have been in that studio so fast to see them get taken down. Ugh, how creepy.
