Boss gifted me a guest book that is the opposite of my decor

Andrea, on May 24, 2019 at 9:34 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12
My birthday was yesterday and my boss very sweetly gave me a nice wedding guestbook as a gift. It is of good quality and is pretty, but it is the exact opposite “style” of what our wedding is. We are going very simple/elegant. The book is extremely rustic. We also weren’t planning to use a traditional guestbook. We are doing the Polaroid style book. I’m certainly not trying to seem ungrateful, as I appreciate that she took the time to choose it and give it to me. Should I just bite the bullet and display it? She did include a gift receipt, so I could return it. She is very, very easy-going and I don’t think she’d be offended, but I also don’t want to piss her off. What are your thoughts?

I would return it. She included a gift receipt in the thought that you might not like it.

Since she included the gift receipt, I would definitely say return it.

This is what I was thinking too. I just hate to offend her.

I think it's a little odd she decided to buy you a guestbook in the first place unless you guys talked about planning or needing one lol. I usually only get something off someone's registry or just give them cash because I don't like picking out things for other people.

I'd return it since she had given the gift reciept. I think she would rather you be happy with it and of course if she doesn't know your theming, it was bound to not match. I'd maybe let her know before or after but definately before the wedding so she isn't surprised or felt a fool of.

Could you use it for a bridal shower or something like that? If not I'd return it.

I would definitely return it. A guest book is a very personal thing to pick out, I think it’s weird that she gifted you one in the first place.

If she included the gift receipt, that tells me that she's ok with you returning it for something else if it doesn't meet your needs. Very thoughtful though.

My fiancé’s brother and sister-in-law gifted us a guest book as an engagement present at Christmas. (We got engaged on December 15th) It was such a sweet gesture and it’s nice, but I had already ordered a customized guestbook that I had saved to my Etsy favorites for months by that point. I got right to purchasing wedding stuff the day after we were officially engaged. Lol. Now I’m not sure I’m going to display both or not. So, I feel ya... sorry you’re going through that! 😐

Honestly- a guestbook is one little detail in the wedding. I, personally would bite the bullet and use it. It also saves you some money.

I'd return it, get something to display the Polaroids in. If it comes up say you had half the plan already and updated her gift to fit the half you had planned already. Make it seem like she helped.
