Booking Timeline Help

Erin, on July 10, 2019 at 11:50 AM Posted in Planning 0 16
Does anyone know of a great timeline to get things done? I am finding a lot and some say I should be finding vendors like caterers now and my wedding is 14ish months out and some say 6months like that is a big different. (Not just with caterers)

Depending on the area you are in, starting to look now is a good idea! Tons of venues and vendors book out a year in advance. I think you should at least look into your venue now! Especially if you have a certain date.

I live in the Denver Metro area. I just booked the venue this past week actually because I was getting nervous that I wouldn’t find anything open for my date. But as far as caterers, DJs, hair salons, florists etc.. should I start pricing those too and booking them this far out?

In a big city like that, yes. I booked most of my vendors about 8-10 months out, in Nashville area, and a lot of the places I contacted were already booked for my date! I am getting married in October as well and it is one of the most popular wedding months right now. I would start with catering, flowers, and DJ, then move on to hair and makeup, etc. I think you would be fine waiting 2-3 months as well, but you definitely aren't starting too early!

There’s an app that has a timeline on it. It’s made by 7logistics. I dont Follow it completely but it has been helpful to stay on track.

In Denver, definitely book your major vendors as soon as possible! We live near Fort Collins, but are planning to get married in Breckenridge. Lots of caterers and photographers I’ve contacted are already booked with dates through December 2020, some even into 2021. Happy planning!

It really depends on your area and your budget. We booked like this:

    DOC: 15 months out

Venue and Photographer and Florist: 14 months out

    HAMU: 13 months out

    DJ: 10 months out

    Videographer: 8 months out

    Caterer: 8 months out

    Bakery: 6 months out

    Officiant: 5 months out

    Transportation: 6 months out

It depends on the area you get married (when their busy season is) how easy going you are and things like that. I didnt follow any timelines and booked where I could when I could which helped because I got to pay on them and get then paid of much sooner than what timelines were showing me.

I would say the earlier the better. The good places tend to get booked up fast. We booked our venue (and caterer) 18 months early and still had to push our date back almost 2 months to get the venue we wanted! Photographers/DJs etc we did about 15 months ahead of time, they tend to have a big more flexibility with dates, as to bakeries and florists.

Its a blessing. We are down to the last 3 months and I hate myself for not paying sooner so we could have the last month to just save for a honeymoon and activities during the wedding week (its a destination wedding so we will be there a few days before and a few days after). I don't think its too early to start looking and booking right around the year mark. This was our timeline:

    August we got engaged

October we booked our photographer, bar and venue

    january we booked transportation

march we booked DJ and catering

    HMUA we booked in April

thats all our major vendors that we need to worry about we get married in October. So we started booking right at the year mark.

Hey Erin! I'm around the same time as you, on the 4th. I have booked my venue (comes w/ catering) and DOC. I probably will sign the contract with my florist this week. I pretty much know what DJ I want to go with but I am waiting until I pick our photographer and videographer. We have decided between two but both have super busy schedules and we haven't been able to sit down yet to talk. With that said, I am hoping to have them booked before September. I won't worry about hair and make-up until a few months before.

I am just ready to book all the big things so I can take a breather! Been engaged a little over a month and its just been serious wedding anxiety to get what I want within our budget.
