Help please.... my best friend met a guy 6 months ago and theyve been dating for that long. Theyre both adults, have steady jobs. She called me recently to tell me she booked her venue for her wedding in the fall of 2015... but shes not engaged and he has not asked her. She tends to be in love with the idea of marriage etc (ive been engaged since june and am planning a May 2016 wedding). Shes not telling anyone but me (and her boyfriend) about the planning. I want to have a talk with her because I'm concerned, but i dont want to come off as "all knowing" - ive been in my relationship for 7 years and i dont believe in rushing things - not my style. Even though it may work for some people, i know her better than anyone and i just dont understand why she doesn't wait and why she is booking wedding venues after 6 months! Please help :/

Anyone can book a venue for an event, just because it's a wedding doesn't mean the bride and groom both have to sign. Parents book venues all of the time.

Thank you again to everyone for honest responses and not attacks that I am some "troll" - i dont even know how to upload a picture and I don't have to prove anything.... that's beyond silly.

People don't read - and thank you to the person who clarified I wanted objective advice on HOW to talk to her. Id be a bad friend if I never said anything - that's not being supportive. I can say my peace and check in with her but then support her decision. Doesn't mean I'm not worried.

She put a deposit down to hold the date. At the venues I looked at, my fiance didn't need to sign to hold the date - but you are right about the contract itself. Obviously he has to know about it, but I'm still more concerned about her. That's all! Smiley smile

Maybe you could just ask her as a joke if she's getting a ring and see how it goes from there.

Also if you click on your name at the top right and click settings you can change your user photo that shows up in the forums from there. ppl just like it because they can recognize it as a real person vs. troll/follow real people's stories.

Lady Monk - she shouldnt talk to her, its none of her business. be a friend, ask if shes sure, excited etc. but to ask how to nicely say you're fucking insane, doesnt exist.

Andrea - our venue only needed 1 signature

Listen, it's none of your business, but if you really *must* talk to her, make it about the money, not about the relationship. Being concerned that she'll lose a couple thousand dollars is a lot less emotionally charged of a conversation than suggesting that she's la-la bonkers about the reality of getting married.

Not everybody needs to be together for seven years though. We booked our venue at 12 months.

Thank you the info on proper wedding wire etiquette - Im using their mobile site but when I get a chance on a desktop I'll update things.

Just want to say - it's much easier and more mature to inform others of etiquette of someone new to the board versus atracking them and accusing them.

I care about her - I think her decision is impulsive but I never asked how to tell her nicely I don't necessarily agree. I asked how to talk to her about me being concerned for her.

Thank you to most of you, again!

If she is talking to her boyfriend about all this, they might already be talking about marriage. Six months may seem a little soon to some, but to others its the perfect timing. FH and I became engaged at 9 months. However, as early as 8 months we were talking about guest lists and budgets, and when we had been dating for 6 months, I saw this GORGEOUS wedding dress, and he was encouraging me to buy it, if I wanted it.

It's her money. Her deposit she won't get back if it doesn't work.

I found my dress before I had my ring officially. BUT we talked about it and knew it was coming. We had been looking at rings for a few months and were really close to picking a ring. FH knew I bought - I got his OK to ahead of time.

I would stay out of it. If she's already booked it, she might have paid a deposit and there's nothing your talk could do about it. But as time progresses and her future appears bleak, then perhaps say something.

If she's in this kind of mindset, she may not believe you're on her side.

Oh, I know FH and I had to sign it because we were both going to be paying for it, I don't know, that's what my venue told me
