Book hair & makeup before trial?

Kati, on July 5, 2017 at 4:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Did any of you book your hair/makeup artist prior to your trial? I'm getting down to the wire for my date (this is the one big thing I've been blowing off booking). My top choice is still available but probably won't be for long... she doesn't have a trial available for a couple weeks and needs a deposit to hold my date. I'm considering just putting down the deposit before my trial but am wondering if this seems to risky... but if I don't I risk her being booked by my trial and then I'm back at square one. Thoughts? She has great reviews and I like her work on her website.

I booked my hair and makeup before a trial because in my area I have very limited options, especially for stylist that will travel to me. I think if you are willing to possibly lose a deposit if you don't like your trial go for it! If you feel pretty confident you might just want to go for it since you are getting so close.

I did. I looked at reviews and photos and they're on my venues preferred list. I just didn't want to have to worry about it anymore so I booked.

I did this because I am planning my wedding out of state and I knew I wouldn't be available for a trial until too late for my comfort. I look at ton of work and read a lot of reviews, I did a little emailing with her beforehand as well. When we finally met in person for my trial, she was great!

I booked my hair and makeup before my trial but I actually wish that I wouldn't have. I didn't end up loving them. After a few trials we finally got it right but I didn't like the attitude they had when I had them redo it. They are the one vendor that I wish I would have shopped around more for

I did. Only because I go to that salon regularly for my hair every 2 months. And the MUA sits right next to my hairdresser

I'm doing the trials first and then booking if I like them.

It probably helps that my wedding is off-season so more are available!

I didn't do trials with my mua and hairstylist. They gave me exactly what I wanted the day of the wedding. I trusted their reviews and pics enough.

I did. I am planning my PA wedding while living in Massachusetts. My hair and makeup artists are very active on social media and have done my cousin's wedding so I had a pretty good idea. It really helps to look at their work and see if it fits your ideal

I did. They gave me the best price, worked with me on what I was looking for, and had over 1,000 5 star reviews between WW, Yelp, and Google.

I did! She was on my venue's recommended vendors list. I also looked at her profile online. I want a simple look so I wasn't too concerned. I loved what they did. I also don't have hundreds and hundreds of dollars to waste on trying different HMU artists.

I hated doing this, but I had to as well. I won't be able to visit my wedding location until 3 months out, and it's crazy how many places are booked already. I booked two different ones (the deposits were low), so I at least have a back up. The MUAs know I won't decide on who I'm going with until January too, so they're not in the dark or anything.

I really didn't want to but every HMUA I contacted required a contract and deposit up front before the trial. I have my MUA booked but still searching for hair.

I will be booking my hair with a new salon recommended to me before trying them, my current salon's wedding prices were astronomical so I am trusting recommendations from a friend who had this salon do their wedding hair. I do not have extra money to dish out, the average price from hair salons I contacted for trials was about 100$.

I am strongly considering doing my own makeup, or having my mother who used to work at the makeup counter (back when CVS had this feature) many moons ago do my makeup

My regular hairdresser that I see every 2 weeks is doing my hair as her wedding gift to me. I'm definitely gonna book a trial first for the MUA. I don't usually wear makeup so I just want to make sure I like everything before I fully commit.

I booked both pre-trial. I worked w the hair stylist when I was a BM in a wedding and the MUA comes recommended by her.

I booked my makeup without a trial because her work spoke for itself and there was no one else I would trust to do it so I wasn't going to take the chance of waiting to book her. I won't be doing that with my hair though. I haven't found anyone I am obsessed with for hair and I'm very particular about how I want it so I will definitely be doing the trial first. I might even have a few trials with different stylists before I sign anything.
