Boning and bruising from my dress

klimberkat, on August 19, 2016 at 9:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I had my final dress fitting last night. Good news: I lost enough weight that my rib cage isn't squeezed and I can breathe easily. Yay! Bad news, now that my rib cage isn't holding the dress up, the boning is resting on my hips (I have an incredibly short torso so it's pushing my hips down). It's not too uncomfortable, but I'm worried that after a few hours I'll have bruises. Those will look super sexy in a bikini on Waikiki the following week, lol!

Anyone have any tips or tricks to stave off bruising from boning? It's too late for any additional alterations, not that I think there is anything she can do.

No advice, sadly, just wanted to drop in and say you look beautiful in your dress!

I love your dress? Will any undergarments help to ease that a little?

You can't shorten the boning, that would honestly be a bigger alteration than just taking it in to make it fit your ribcage again. Smiley sad

That's unfortunately all you could do, really. What about some foam pads under your undies/shape wear where the boning rests?

    Thank you!

That's what I'm wondering...I wasn't planning to wear anything but undies because the dress is so structured, but now I'm wondering if some sort of spanx might help. Unfortunately, it's too late for anymore alterations, but I don't think it would have been an easy fix anyway. I may just have to suck it up and hope any bruising isn't visible afterwords. Luckily, we're asking guests to change for the bonfire so I'll be able to do a wardrobe change around 9 (ceremony at 4).

Spanx might make it worse, since they're meant to pull in. I'd say a longline bra, to fill the gap so-to-speak, of what you lost and the size of the dress, might help. Or even a waist cincher, not tight enough to actually "cinch" anything.

Arnica cream works for my bruises if you do get bruised! And agree you look very pretty in your dress!!

Your dress is gorgeous!!! Sorry I don't have any advice. Unless you find a way to pad your hips?

Try not to tie it too tight, if it is a corset dress. Other than that, I have no ideas.

I'm not sure if it would work but what about an ace bandage as padding for your good? Or a binder like they use to bind breasts?

Ok so I'm weird and I have watched my big fat gypsy wedding and what they use to prevent bruising on their hips from the weight of their dresses is gauze and tape you could use the same thing at the points where your worried the boning is going to cause you to bruise

No advice but your dress is one of my favorite. I also like your idea for the pop of color peaking out.

Thanks guy, I might try tape and gauze...my MOH was laughing at me when I was talking about it at the shop, telling me I'm like one of those Gypsy brides! Lol!

Thanks for the tips and kind words, I can wait to pick this baby up on Friday! :-D
