I've been trying to figure out what to do for a rehearsal dinner! We're getting married at the end of October, and my parents suggested hosting a bonfire where we could grill burgers and roast hot dogs and smores and things, and I would provide beer and wine for those attending. We would do it at my parents house, which is kind of central between the church where our ceremony is being held at and where everyone who would be attending lives. My parents have a huge backyard, a big grill and a decent sized fire pit.

I know it's not traditional but everyone has been fine with the idea so far. Any thoughts on this?

OP I think this is a great idea and perfect for that time of year. It will likely be chilly but as long as you give the guests adequate notice of your plan so they can dress appropriately you should be good. I would also having an indoor or shelter option nearby in case of rain. You know how unpredictable STL weather can be!

My FH and I are actually considering doing something similar. I think it's a great idea. Something fun and laid back. So much more personal and special. Love it!

My BMs were all okay with the bonfire idea, but I'll ask them again because of the hair thing in case they didn't take it into consideration. My three friends in the wedding are all doing their own hair, and my mom is doing hair for my two sisters. But I'll check again before making a final decision.

Mandi - There will probably be about 20-25 people there, my parents' house is a decent size to fit everyone in there in case of bad weather Smiley smile

I love this idea and think that we will end up doing something like this at FH parents home! Grilling out and drinking beer! Low key and saves money as opposed to renting out a conference room at a hotel with overpriced food!

We're a family of asthmatics. We'd have to decline.

We wanted to do this but sadly we live in an apartment and my FIL's moved out of state so we have no where to have a bonfire rehearsal dinner!

If we were getting married closer to home we would definitely be having a bonfire. With beer and fire no one will be cold!

We are doing a rehearsal cookout at my inlaws the weekend before our wedding because we have a large wedding party and wanted to be able to have everyone's families and significant others. We have a food truck coming and will provide alcohol. should be fun!

And then for our actual rehearsal we'll have just the wedding party come do a quick run through and then everyone can go home since its on a Wednesday night!

This sounds amazing! We were going to have a bonfire but honestly forgot once everyone started eating and mingling. We had pizza.
