BM having surgery

Future Mrs Harvey, on May 11, 2016 at 9:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

My sister, who is one of my bridesmaids, is pregnant and her c-section is scheduled for August 19. She has been having gallbladder problems and her doctor wants to remove it one month after her c-section. That's 3 weeks before my wedding. If anyone has had this surgery or know someone who has, do you think she will be healed and feeling well enough to be there?

I haven't had a child or a c-section so I'm not sure how I'd feel having a month after the c-section but my gallbladder removal was fairly easy and I only missed 5 days of work!

Yes. FSIL had her gallbladder removed. The first four days she was really bad but within a week and a half she was fine. It's going to be harder since your sister will also still be recovering from her c-section. That's not a walk in the park. My sister was in pain for a very long time after that.

Ice had a c-section. It took about 6 weeks for me to feel completely better. She's dad one also and she bounced back quicker than I did. She was good after about a month.

I had mine out laparoscopically and was pretty much back to normal in 2 days. I was caring for my 10 week old the next day.

Ok, sounds like she will be fine. She is having it done laparoscopically also.

Eh, if they can take out her gall bladder laparoscopically then she should be back to normal a little sooner. They tried to take mine out that way, but in the end had to open me. I was in the hospital for a few days and had to miss several weeks of school. It's a high abdominal scar, so hard to move around/lift things after.

Wait she has a c section scheduled for 3 months from now? You can do that? So if I understand right it'll be 7 weeks from c section to your wedding and 3 months from gall bladder to wedding

My mom had her gallbladder out and it took forever for her to heal because auto immune problems run in our family so the healing process is much slower. I have no idea how long it will take her, but I hope for the best outcome!

I have had 2 c-sections and my gallbladder removed and honestly the gallbladder surgery was a much easier healing process. I was up and taking care of everything that needed to be done the same day. With both c-sections it took much more time to recuperate (but that's because you are also taking care of a newborn in addition to dealing with major surgery).

NowASeptMrs, yes if the doctor feels a c-section is the best bet they will schedule early. My ex-sister in law's second c-section was scheduled at her second doctor's appointment.

She's had one c-section before, so it's safer to have another c-section as opposed to pushing after having a c-section. So, yes she has a scheduled c-section around her due date. And the gallbladder surgery will be a month after that.

I had laparoscopic abdominal surgery 4 weeks ago to remove an ovarian cyst. Not identical positioning of the incisions as for a gallbladder, but I found the first two weeks to be hard but then I turned the corner and was fine Smiley smile

Most people do fine after a lap chole (removal of gallbladder) and typically sent home about 48 hrs after the surgery. If she's young and otherwise healthy then I would presume she'll do well. This is not the same procedure it was 10-15 years ago. I'd be more interested in her feeling well with 2 surgeries and caring for the baby then just the lap chole itself.

I have had a c-section and it took awhile to heal. The muscles are what take so long to heal. Couldn't laugh, cough, sneeze, anything that made the muscles contract. I've also had my gallbladder removed and it was nothing I was sent home just over an hour after the surgery was finished. I was grocery shopping 3 days later haha. I think she will be just fine Smiley smile

Don't put too much pressure on your sister. Caring for a new baby is all-consuming, never mind the two surgeries. I'm sure she'll try but she may not make it for the whole day. I don't think I could have. I hope all goes well for her!

Except for the part where there's a baby. At even six weeks postpartum and post op c-section i was a mess. I was sleep deprived, malnourished and dishevelled. I'm just encouraging the OP to expect to be flexible, as her sister is facing some challenges.

I had a c-section but not gallbladder. I can tell you with just a c-section alone there's no way I could have handled that. I was in so much pain for over a month.

No C-section section here... But I had my gallbladder removed. I had it on A Friday, was released 2 hours after the surgery and was caring for my 2 and 4 year olds that Monday and felt decent. She'll probably be sore, but I'm sure she'll be fine.
