BM gifts...real or fake jewelry?

mellissamarie, on March 22, 2010 at 5:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

Are you going with real or fake jewelry if you're getting it for your girls?

I've already put $50 towards each of thier dresses, am paying for thier hair and make up ($75), and buying them an engraved compact mirror (either thier names, or "I'm too pretty to do math"- around $30-$40)....but I'd like to get them the earrings and bracelets I'd like them to wear that day. I could get them cheaper for $30-$40 for the set, or real gems for more like $150-200 a set.

Do you think it would be cheap and tacky if I went with the fake jewelry? Do you think that's enough of a gift, or I should I be gifting more things that they can actually keep and use again? What are you getting your bridesmaids?

I think you are already gifting more than average. It's fine to give the cheaper sets.

I think you should do what you can afford. So far, I just have bought my bm's pearl jewelry sets. They were affordable on sale for $30, definitely not fine jewelry but nice. I may get them something for whoever comes to the bachelorette party, but I am trying to keep in budget and I have 7 ladies to buy for so if I spend 200 on each for jewelery alone that would come to $1,400 and my fiance would kill meSmiley smile

I think the fake jewelry is perfectly fine. You want to get something that is large enough to show up in photos, and the fake jewelry will work great for that.

And, I think you're covered for gifts. You're getting them enough.

I'm wearing "fake" jewelry--I wanted brightly colored crystal that would sparkle in the photos. So the BMs are all getting barrettes that match it, and as Melissa points out, they're big enough that they will show up in photos. (They're also getting personalized flasks.)

(I also think the phrase "fake jewelry" is odd--I mean, I totally understand what you mean, but I'd just call it "costume jewelry" because as long as it will actually stay on my body, I'd say it's real enough jewelry for me. :p )

Thanks girls- I'll probably go the cheaper route since there's 6 of them, and you all totally reminded me I still need to pick out hair clips for them!

@Cabell- I used it for lack of a better word at the time, you're right, I should have said Costume

You have done above and beyond, how about nothing! Let them wear their own, suggest gold or silver and let them purchase on their own!!! No one traditionally pay for as much as you have for their BMs, you make other brides looks bad Smiley sad

@ TJ- I dont mean to make people look bad! I just wanted them to have thier hair done, and wanted to broaden our dress options, so I felt that if that was that important to me, that I should be helping pay for it. I mean, they dont really need thier hair/makeup done, but I think it would help my pics, so I'm willing to pay for it, and we're not paying for any of the wedding ourselves (except our wedding bands and my dress alterations), so I can spare a little cash for my best girls.

@ Msshay- those are beautiful!!! And they look WAY to pretty for that price- she should raise her rates!! I might have to check her out- Thanks!!!

@melissa, there were other vendors with similar products that were much more expensive. I def love her! lol. I'm going back to her because now that all of my BM have their shoes for the reception, I dunno how I feel about those accessories with their shoes. lol. Looks like I'm getting them 2 sets of accessories, their hair/makeup, AND compacts lol. Not to mention I had to buy some of the dresses. I def know the feeling. Now all I need to do is get my free honeymoon from WE haha. But back to the jewelry, she's a good bet!

Etsy.com has tons of options, also some small jewelry stores might be willing to give you a discount since you would be buying a couple of them. You should also check out downtown LA. Happy Planning

Hi Melissa - Congrats on your engagement! I have an online boutique and would love to help you with your girls accessories.

If you decide to go with couture jewelry these sets would be fabulous with your girls purple dresses:

For a more costume look we can do colored pearls - we offer over 55 pearl colors. This is an illusion set made of swarovski crystalized glass pearls. Something they will wear again!

    Matching hair clips

If you want to drop your cost per girl I would be willing to work with you and find a crystal or pearl box set in the $30 range per girl.

Good luck with your planning! Let me know if I can help!

I made a lot of my own jewelry so I made necklaces for my girls. They are basically tree stands of glass beads in my colors woven/braided together. I also made their dresses for them.

    Hi Melissa.

    Please check out my website:

    www.stelladot.com/christishay

What I LOVE to do for Brides is set them up with an on-line party, and have them order their bridesmaids jewelry, and then they earn free jewelry in the mean time, by being the host. Use that free jewelry to buy yourself some jewelry, your mother, or use it to buy the last set of bridesmaids jewelry.

We have tons of great earrnings, necklaces and bracelets for bridal themes, starting at just $12 ! And the jewelry will arrive to your home in 3-5 business days!

    Make sense??

If not, contact me for more details!!

I'd love to talk to you!

    Thanks,

    Christi Clapper

Instead of jewelry have you considered hair accents?
