bm Gift Ideas for Unusual Situation?

Shelby, on July 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
Hello! I have some complications getting in the way of me trying to think of BM gift ideas and I’m hoping some of you might have some good suggestions.
One of my BMs is highly allergic to metal that is not 14k gold or surgical/stainless steel, highly allergic to dairy, and very sensitive to chemical smells. So basically most jewelry, chocolate, and most bath stuff/perfume/lotion is out for her. She’s also vegan so anything I get for her, I want to make sure it’s CF. She did say that Lush products are fine so I was thinking of getting the girls GCs to Lush and then taking them shopping before the wedding so they can pick up a few things on me.
A different BM of mine is still unsure if she’ll be able to make it to my wedding. I asked her to be in my party because she’s the friend I’ve had the longest (over a decade) but she lives on the opposite end of the country from me and she’s trying to join the military. She was honest about it from the start so it’s not a surprise or anything, but I’m thinking it may be a good idea to steer clear of anything monogrammed in case she can’t come?
I’m also trying to keep all their gifts as similar as possible, or exactly the same if I can. They’re all pretty alternative like me so really unique gift ideas are a bonus. TIA!

A shopping spree at Lush sounds like a great idea. It would be a great way for you and your girls to meet up and relax for an afternoon.

I'm like your BM that's allergic to everything. One of the things I got my girls was a nice pair of 14k gold earrings from TJ Maxx so they weren't to pricey. A trip to Lush is also a sweet idea.

Lush is a great idea. You could also try stuff like the beauty section at whole foods

Lush sounds great! My wedding is in the fall so I got my girls Vera Bradley travel blankets. They fold up into a pillow that you can hook onto your suitcase handle and are super soft! (And I got them on sale lol). I figured it’s something anyone can use and enjoy. Also was looking at makeup bags with their names on them.

A trip to lush actually sounds great! You could even do a home spa day after.

Why are you trying to keep all their gifts similar? Shop for each one as though it is her birthday, something that caters to her hobbies or taste and style . For jewelry for the one allergic to many metals, it is usually the chromium, nickel, or magnesium that is in the findings ( clasps, hooks .). If you buy, or make jewelry that is primarily glass beads, or polished stones, then all you need to have in high gold content is the clasp, or hooks for earrings. She may be able to have the hypoallergenic steel ones. But actually, a clasp, or ear wire, has so little weight in gold, that it does not add much in cost to something made entirely of glass or stone beads. Where jewelry with lots of metal gets quite expensive fast if all 18 k gold. And you can buy real gold clasps at a good beading store or website. Do not trust hobby lobby, or Michael's type store. A jeweler can change a clasp if you do not know how.
