Blanket Seating for Ceremony?

As long as the ceremony is not too long, I think it is a really cute idea! Im not a fan of the idea for the reception, as it is too much time on the ground, and too difficult to eat, but I think the idea for a ceremony is unique and adorable.

I didn't see anyone else bring this up so I have to do it..

What about rain and the possible summer storm? You have to think of a back up plan.

My venue doesn't have quite enough chairs for me to set up my whole ceremony and have the reception set, so I may do straw bales for some of the younger crowd, rather than rent new chairs or make everyone stand.

How about you have your guest bring Lawn chairs. But your idea is SOOO awesome. and uniqe. I NEVER would have came up with that idea.

One of my options is a picnic type of wedding, but I would like to do more of a table set up.

Personally, I think the blanket picnic ideas are cute, but I feel like they could get costly with all the baskets and the food and the bottles of drinks. If you have the budget though, it would probably be a lot of fun, especially on the 4th of July.

Do you have a freecycle in your area? I would put out a request for picnic baskets.

Honestly, if it were any other day of the year, I'd say you were just trying to creatively come up with a way to nix chairs, and lol, even if thats your original thought, I LOVE the picnic setting for the ceremony since your wedding date is July 4th. We ALL associate that holiday with picnics. I think it would be a nice surprise for the guests, and a nice detail touch on your end.

Couple things to watch out for:

!)make sure they're nice quality blankets, your guests are probably wearing their best attire to your function make sure their clothes don't get ruined

2) Think ADA. Are there any grandparents or other people with special situations coming to the ceremony? Make a section for them that doesn't look like they're shoved away from the actual festivities, you want them to enjoy the day as much as your other guests!

I actually have chairs I could use for free so its not the cost, i just want my wedding to stand out (4 cousins got married last year!) I havent started looking into blankets yet, but my mom suggested comforters which I think is a good idea.

Sadly both my grandparents are not longer with us, fiance's grandparents are the only elderly guests but I am thinking I will set out 20 or so chairs and people can feel free to use them if they have a medical condition I am not aware of.

(hopefully they all get the drift not to wear super nice clothes (it'll be on my website) We are having lawn games and shooting off fireworks for the reception and we are eating shellfish with our hands lol Im classy and I know it!

You've got the right idea! Just keep the theme consistent in your invites, website, word of mouth, and your guests will be prepared. I wouldn't wear my suit to a lobster boil, but you know what they say about us when we assume Please do connect with me! In theory I think it's cute, and I'll sprawl on a blanket at a music festival for days. I'm not old. But when I'm at a music festival I'm usually in a swimsuit, free to move around, and possibly not completely sober. At a wedding, where I'm sitting upright and still, dressed up a bit more and trying to hear/see what's going on? I want a chair.

You could still incorporate the picnic theme if you have a little shaded tent nearby and have refreshments out before the wedding starts. Fruit skewers, little snacks, sodas/lemonade on ice, mini fans.

Regardless, if the ceremony is out in full sun on July 4th, I'd set out lots of cool water bottles, program fans or just plain fans, maybe some parasols for shade, and also maybe buy a handful of those battery-operated mini mister fans. We take those to summer concerts, they're awesome.

I just came across this post and have a question on numbers. If you did end up doing this what was your blanket to guest ratio? Or what would you suggest?
I’m doing something very similar, but am not sure how many blankets to have (we have about 100 guests).
