So, FH and I just received an invite yesterday to a friend's wedding. It's Black Tie! I'm more of a jeans and Keds kind of girl, so Black Tie overwhelms me. It's not even Black Tie Optional so I could get away with a short dress. I need to get a gown. To those of you who have attended a Black Tie...

To those of you who have attended a Black Tie event, please post a picture of your dress! I need inspiration Smiley sad

Honestly, don't even bother with brick & mortar unless you want to spend a couple of hundred. Rent the runway allows you to rent two sizes, and I believe you can get a temp rent at a cheaper price to just try on. Honestly, if it's a really high end event, I'd rather spend $70 on the rental and not keep it, than wear something that looks cheap. A long dress does not equal a gown Smiley smile

My friend gave her husband a heart attack by telling him the dress for the wedding was a $2k dress. She didn't mention it cost $100 to rent, haha.

While I think rent the runway is a cool idea, I've also been pretty shocked by the prices. I could spend $100 and get a bridesmaid dress at DB that would probably be nice enough and keep it and possibly even sell it after. This is why I checked at Ross first. Also it might be winter dance season so you might find something that looks good in the juniors section at a department store.

We're going to a formal wedding next month. I am an avid believer in not asking people to buy anything to attend an event. I do not wear formal wear on a regular basis, and refuse to buy something that I know I will not wear again. I purchased this dress from Dillard's. It's something I know I will wear again and again.

Consignment stores and thrift shops. seriously. Start looking. If you're in NJ (they have places elsewhere too.....) Unique and Value Village area amazing stores; they're a mix of overstocks from other retail stores and donated items. I think I own everything that Chicos and Ralph Lauren Sport has ever made...at about 5.00 per item.......
