We’re planning a June 1st wedding in Pennsylvania. The ceremony will be outside around 4pm & reception inside with air conditioning. I want a short ceremony around 20-25 minutes.

Our colors are lots of natural greenery & black & white. All that green color will come from plants & ivy. Our ceremony area is gorgeous and covered in greenery. I keep second guessing that black part though simply because of the season we choose. I love the color the black. I find it classic and sleek. Even my engagement ring has a salt and pepper diamond. I want black bridesmaid dresses & black dress shirts for the guys. (No tuxes here- we’re keeping it simple) I just don’t want them to be too hot even though the ceremony area is shaded by trees or people think I’m crazy for having a late spring wedding with black dresses/dress shirts. My FH is wearing light grey & I am planning on wearing just a simple white dress that isn’t actually a wedding dress. (After hours and hours of looking at dresses I came to the conclusion wedding dresses aren’t my thing) I attached a picture of the dresses I’m looking at for the bridesmaids. None of them have said a bad thing about it and the dress options are flowy & mostly sleeveless or short sleeve. However my grandmother did make the comment it’s a wedding not a funeral. I personally don’t associate black with being depressing, but I know a lot of people do.

Any thoughts? I don’t want a crazy colorful wedding & I don’t want them wearing green since I want all the green to be natural elements. Also since FH is wearing grey I don’t really want grey bridesmaid dresses either.

    Your plans sound beautiful!

The only people in our wedding party are going to be our children and two of my daughters have already asked me if they could please wear black, navy or a dark gray color. I know that they would not feel comfortable wearing a very brightly colored dress and while it's my decision I definitely want to take their preferences into consideration. I want them to feel comfortable and beautiful too!

I love the black dresses. Put a pop of color in the bouquets if you feel you need one.

TBH I would roll my eyes at a bride that wanted me to wear a long black dress in the middle of summer. But I wouldn't say anything to her because I think it's dumb when bridesmaids tell a bride how to do her wedding. I'm also the kind of person who talked my FMIL out of wearing a long black dress to my September wedding cause I'm the kind of person that thinks it's tacky to wear black to a wedding, especially if you're in the bridal party.

ALLLL that being said, do what you want! If black is your dream bridesmaid color, go for it.

Hi Alexa!!! Based on what you described for your wedding, black bridesmaids dresses would be gorgeous!!!! I am also not one for many colors and I think the look of black dresses is so clean, chic, and elegant! Adding greenery and natural elements will really pull everything together!

Who are those dresses by? I am really loving the styles! Have you decided to stick with this?

Love your dress pick... my girls will also wear black dresses. Our colors are red, black and white. I do not think anyone will get too hot in 20 minutes.

Hey! I have decided to stick with it for now but I’m also looking at their grey colors. I decided to get a real wedding dress after all & the light grey would match the skirt on my dress. So we’d actually all be in grey. They’re from Show Me Your Mumu.. they have a bridesmaid section of really inexpensive dresses in tons of colors! Most are made of chiffon, so super breathable and lightweight!

I personally I am not a fan of black bridesmaid dresses for a wedding. But do whatever makes you happy it's your day.

I love their selection of bridesmaids dresses! The shades of grey they offer are very pretty so you can't go wrong either way!

What about a champagne or ivory dress? I know that normally no one wears white but the bride, but a tan/cream/champagne/ivory color (as long as it doesn't appear white) color would be very natural, and definitely not as hot.

Long black dresses outside in June is a NO-NO. Even if your ceremony is short, the photographers will want an hour of pictures outside too. I think that you should opt for grey or any other color besides black.

All that being said, it sounds like you have your heart set on black. If you really want black, i would opt for shorter dresses to at least help with the heat a little. If you are DEAD SET on long black, be sure to get a fabric that is light and cool so they don't get hot.

Black is always classic and always in season. I think it's so silly when people make the "funeral" remark. Go to any cocktail party or concert in NY and you will see a sea of black clothing.

I didn't have a color theme at my wedding and told my MOH (I didn't have BMs) to wear what she wanted. She wore a black gown that she wore to her daughter's wedding and my sister, who walked me down the aisle, also wore a black gown and they both looked beautiful. My wedding, BTW, was in August.

I've been invited to a Hindi/Indian wedding in January. Guests are encouraged to wear a sari, anarkali, or lehenga. I've never been to an Indian wedding, but I'm SO EXCITED. I've tried to look up the difference between these types of dresses, but I'm not sure what the best option for both warmth and dancing will be. I also researched that guests shouldnt wear red or maroon. Is that true? Where can I even buy a sari, anarkali, or lehenga? What jewelry goes with it? Am I allowed to do henna?
