Best/Worst Places to register

WindyCityBride2015, on December 18, 2014 at 3:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

We are going to start registering in the next month or so. I'd like to register at 2 or 3 places, at varying price points to accommodate my guests' budgets. What were some of the best/worst places you dealt with? Any perks, pros/cons I should know about? I'm in Chicago, if that makes a difference. Any help is appreciated!

For now, I have Target, Kohl's, BB&B, Macy's, and Crate&Barrel in mind...

Target is the worst. Their website never works, and it says things have been bought when they haven't. The in-store scanners don't work and no one in the store can tell you how to use them. I would not recommend using them.

ETA: In addition to using Target I used BBB and Crate and Barrel. Both were good but Crate and Barrel has the best service.

FH and I have been doing all of our registering from online, and I really have been fairly happy with the walmart registry we have going so far. We just bought a house, and what we need most is lawn equipment! Also, everyone has a walmart nearby.

We are also registered at Macy's and Khol's which have great registry programs. For Khol's though the website has been really finicky for me... and even deleted a bunch of stuff I had on there.

We did Macy's and Target. Macy's gives you great service. The guy checked us on many times, made recommendations when we were debating things (dishware, blenders, pans, etc), and helped us check that our registry had the right number of items in the right price points.

Target did fine for us. They gave us the gun and set us free. As far as I know we had no issues with things showing bought that weren't, those we did get 2 items twice. We just returned the doubles and bought other stuff.

Macy's was amazing. The website was easy, the in-store folks were helpful and I can't say enough great things about our personal consultant person from the day we registered and she's still helping us with our completion stuff 3 months later. Their rewards program is fabulous.

While I love Kohls, their people were very unhelpful and uninformed. And the website played games with us and we got kinda ripped off with return items that had gone on sale between when our guests purchased & when we returned. But the stores are very accessible and they have a good selection so they're not too bad, all in all.

Check with BBB. I know they are changing their return policy January 1st. I don't know how this will effect registries.

We did ours at Macys and BBB....all online, not once did we go into the stores. The websites are easy to purchase from, the registry managers are easy to use and I know from experience as a guest buying from registries at those stores that they are very user friendly.

We registered at BBB and Crate & Barrel. The only thing you need to keep in mind with C&B is that they change their floor by season. My FH and I went to one of their registry events in October, and the lady who helped us said we should really come back end of February/March when they have their spring floor available. Many items from a different season may not be available for your guests to purchase at the time of your shower and/or wedding. Hope this makes sense.

I haven't registered yet. But I can give the guest perspective. Crate and Barrel was super user friendly and great customer service, but a little bit pricey given the high quality. Target was convenient because I do most of my shopping there. Macy's was mixed, some store associates are great other aren't as helpful. I found bbb to be the least guest friend. But that could have just been my experience, the store near me seems to have rude staff.

We will be registering at Target and Menards. We live in an area where nothing is around, so we will do our registries when we have the need to travel the 100 miles to the nearest city that has them (probably in January)!

Target stinks if you're way in advance, a lot of things stop being produced so you may end up with mismatched stuff.

Fellow Chicagoland bride and i loved crate and barrell!! I registered a while ago and almost nothing has gone out of stock, even our seasonal things. There was a special registry party where FH and I along with 4 other couples got to the store before it opened, there was coffee, treats, etc. and we had the whole store to ourselves to look over! They gave a quick 5 minute tips and hints meeting and then let you go, and weren't pushy at all.

@Tracy, where did you hear that BBB is changing their policy and do you have any idea what the changes are?

Yeah Target really isn't that great. When I got married we ended up not even getting anything from Target and just didn't give the link out to any of our friends and family. We went mainly with Macy's. The service is great if you get a good rep and also the discounts are awesome after the wedding.

We we had our baby as well we used Amazon. It was a pretty awesome experience.

    Worst: Target and Kohls

Best: Bed, Bath and Beyond, Macys, Crate and Barrel

We registered at BB&B, Macys and Amazon and have had great experiences with all three. I'm not tech savvy at all and all three websites are super easy to use.

I had zero issues from Target and the registry was bought out. I also created my registry online versus going into the store so that might be why. We also registered at Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel. Both were great and again we registered online instead of going to the store.

We created a virtual registry with Deposit A Gift. A lot of people think asking for money is rude or whatever, but our house is FILLED with everything we could possibly need. We're both in our 30's and have lived in our own for quite a while. With the virtual registry people can put money towards things like a deposit on a house, an HH Boogie keepsake box that I realllllly want, our honeymoon, music, furnishings for the new house... Whatever we would want or need to spend money on in order to start our married life together. We're also going to register at a physical store for people who are uncomfortable with a virtual registry, but we haven't agreed on anything to register for.

Great post! I had just mentioned to someone today that I may add Target (which I love in general) but hmmmm doesn't sound like it's great registry though. FH and I attended a wonderful couples event at Macy's and started one right after we got engaged. Then a few months ago we started one on BBB online-so easy.
