Best/Worst Bridesmaid Gifts

Jeanette, on October 2, 2017 at 8:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 6 139

What is the best and worst bridesmaid gifts you have received in the past. I have never been a bridesmaid and I'm seriously lost looking for gifts for my girls. I need some inspiration and some words of caution. Thanks!

Worst, a tiny satin robe (that doesn't really cover much) that had Bridesmaid printed on the back. They made for cute getting ready photos, but I haven't worn it since as it isn't really practical for regular use. If it didn't have Bridesmaid written on the back, it could have been cute to wear over lingerie for romantic evenings.

I was a BM in one of my best friend's wedding in june and she got us all massages for the morning of the wedding! it was perhaps the best way to start out the day EVER! on TOP of that, she also got everyone personalized flasks - except for me cause i don't drink so she got me this super cute bag (and no, it didn't have BM on it lol).

let me tell you, i greatly appreciated that massage that morning! (it was a long day lol)

Worst: "Bridesmaid" satin robe with no ties on the inside my DD's didn't appreciate this... "bridesmaid" tumbler, "bridesmaid" necklace, with "bridesmaid" wine glass. My life doesn't revolve around being a bridesmaid so it's weird for after the wedding to be adorned in all the BM swag

    Best:

My dress, hair, and makeup paid for by the couple

a really reallllly nice bottle of wine from Argentina (where my DH is from)

A genuine moonstone station style necklace in rose gold (matches my engagement ring)

a really good travel mug that you can literally turn upside down and it doesn't leak!

Worst: horseshoe earring, horseshoe necklace, and tiny make up bag with "bridesmaid" in rhinestones on it.

Best: bottle of great prosecco and a heartfelt thank you note.

ETA: I do NOT ride horses and am frankly scared of them.

Honestly I've never really loved any of the gifts I've been given as a bridesmaid. I suppose the best one would be that the bride got us all little Coach clutches. They were really pretty but nothing I've ever used (I slightly felt ungrateful knowing how much money she spent on those but I've also never really been into name brand stuff like that).

Worst was definitely a shall to use for the wedding. That's literally all she got us. I'm typically not one to really care what I get as a bridesmaid gift because I do know that the bride and groom have put a lot into their day so I don't expect much, but when I opened that gift I was thinking to myself "seriously?! I just dropped hundreds of dollars on your day and I get a $10 shall that I will use for your wedding and that's it..."

Best was a really good bottle of wine and chocolate dipped strawberries delivered to my house a few days before the wedding. Yum!

Ok right after posting this I just remembered that I was a personal attendant once and the bride got me an adorable mug and coffee gift card. That was by far my favorite!!! She got gifts individually for each person based on who they are and not matching gifts for every single person.

Had all the worst- skimpy robe with Bridesmaid embroidered on it, cheap canvas bag filled with crap from the dollar store, water bottle with bridesmaid printed, hanger with bridesmaid wired on, cheap jewelry to wear at the wedding which fell apart when I was trying to put it on and had to be glued together, cheap nail polish in the bride's preferred color, bridesmaid wine glass basically just a pile of crap with all of us receiving the same things- there's nothing thoughtful about that.

Best- either the great bottle of wine or the leather journal for my next hiking trip. The bride had done all the research for one of the destinations on my bucket list and recorded accommodations, pubs, restaurants, trails, hiking meetup groups etc.

What does everyone think of monogrammed swells or yeti mugs? I already bought some robes, thankfully they just say first letter of name on pocket and not BM or MOH, yikes.

We are already planning to pay for housing, hair, and make-up if budget allows.

Best: a nice mug with hot cocoa mix, some nice chocolates, and a tiny bottle of Bailey's.

I've been lucky, never gotten any bad ones. Smiley smile

I've only been in one wedding and the bride got us all matching robes (they don't say bridesmaid on them) and white necklaces. It's been 4 years and I still use both of them all the time!

@Victoria I love monogrammed Yetis! I think those are practical and cute.

I had a monogrammed shirt made for each of my 6 girls, however they're not expected to wear them on the day of, since they're not practical to pull over your head. I got them Bridesmaids tumblers that have their names as well (which I now see are unpopular) and a bath bomb. I also bought them each jewelry and I'm paying for their makeup and a hotel the night before near the venue.

Worst gift: none because I'm honestly just grateful that I get anything.

Best gift: a monogrammed long sleeve Columbia fishing shirt. I love it.

Personalized is fine. Monogrammed is great. However, if either of those things include the word "bridesmaid" or "maid of honor" no thanks.

I got my girls monogrammed weekender bags, tumblers with their names, and necklaces with the geographic coordinates to their favorite places.

I got an engraved yeti tumbler and it's awesome! Also got a travel wine cup with a lid with my initial on it. Super cute. I use both all the time.

I'm still putting things together, but so far I am gifting them flute glasses with their names on them and robes (not saying BM or anything on them so they can reuse them).
