So my fiance's sister happens to be his best friend. I've known of this the entire duration of our two plus year relationship. However in recent weeks and in our discussions of marriage and marital plans she has referenced herself on more than one occasion as the best woman. At first I kind of laughed it off thinking it was just something she was saying to be funny. But now that she said it a number of times and he has also made reference to it I'm beginning to think that they really believe that this is somehow appropriate. I totally disagree with the idea of another woman other than myself standing next to my future husband calling herself the best woman at my wedding. I really don't care that it's his sister, I just think that it's beyond outrageous to have another woman at your ceremony standing at the altar next to the groom calling herself the "best woman". Am I overreacting or is it really just that ridiculous that she could think that she should also be standing beside my man?

I think you are overreacting. I have 3 brothers and I would consider the oldest one to be my best friend. I do not have a wedding party but I seriously considered asking the 3 of them to stand by my side on my wedding day. Sometimes the bond between siblings is extremely close and I think that is a beautiful thing.

It's his sister.. not like he is having his ex girlfriend be his "best woman"

"Neither of us should use our wedding as an opportunity to honor anyone other than each other and perhaps our parents." Maybe it's because I'm gay, but honey if you're this insecure in your relationship you need to consider couple's counselling.

This may be dumb... but i know name calling is a violation but why can people call one another a "troll" I have no idea what it means in these forums but I see it a lot. Is it an abbreviation for something? To me it sounds like name calling, but that is me assuming. We all know what it means to assume lol

Not sure, just thought I would ask.

Troll means someone who just made an account and asks a question to get members riled up. If the question is so far out of reality(as above) most think it's just a fake person. Aka. Troll

@MrsHazel, I'd tell you what I said, but I don't need to get another 5 yard penalty.

@Beklynn, I may or may not be stealing that meme.

You say standing beside your man as if she is a threat to your relationship. She is his sister, not a girl that you have to worry about secretly having feelings for him. Honestly though you should probably know who he is having as his groomsmen before he talks to them about it.

My husband had his sister as his best woman and it was awesome. She made a wonderful toast. I truly don't see a problem with this. I'm a little concerned that you would be this possessive and insecure.

Lmao wait so I saw this come up again and noticed others got flagged also lol I feel better about my situation.

Fun story: my WW account is linked to my joint email for our wedding. FH got the email before me (dammit!) screen shot it and made fun of me lol because I got scolded. Then he said it was even funnier once he saw what it was for. And thought it was gonna be much worse lol

Needless to say I'm quite embarrassed lol

Wow. Just seeing this and really wishing I could see all the flagged comments.

OP, if you are reading, also think about how comfortable you'll be making your bridal party. I've asked my best guy friend to stand on my side and he was so relieved because in another wedding he was asked to stand on the groom's side even though he was friends with the bride. He felt out of place and uncomfortable with the other groomsmen all day.
