Best time to have an engagement party?

HappilyEverAfter329, on November 27, 2016 at 2:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Hey everyone!!

So me and FH have been engaged for about an month and a half!! (It's crazy it feels like it was just yesterday that it happened!) Anyways we're the first in our families to get married so our parents have been talking to us trying to figure out when to have our engagement party. I know I shouldn't be but I kind of like to be in control of everything so my mom is leaving it up to me of when I want the party to take place. I have no idea of when to have it. Our wedding won't be be until 4/13/2018. Would January be a good time to have the party or should we wait? I'm so lost here haha any suggestions would be great!!

DHs grandmother threw us an engagement party about 4 months after we got engaged. We got engaged Dec 2014, engagement party was March 2015 and the wedding was May 2016. Usually engagement parties are within 3-4 months of the engagement, so January should be just fine.

Have your engagement party asap. The wedding will be here before you know it. We started planning 3 years ago (our wedding is in may of 2017) it's so nice that almost everything is done and I'm stress free. I did everything because I am the same way. Just remember to voice what you want the way you want it because sometimes there is no way to do everything youtself.

Hey congrats!! Just recently got engaged myself in September. We are also looking at 40/20/18 how funny!! We had or engagement party earlier this month. It was just about two months after the proposal. Of course there isn't much etiquette but I wouldn't push it farther than February. After that your engagement isn't news anymore. The party is really to celebrate your relationship and prepare for the next chapter.

We got engaged in July and had our party in September. I think January would be good, that gives you time to plan and gives people advanced notice.

Have your engagement party in January or February (give your guests time to recuperate from holiday parties and spending). That's the only input you should be offering. You shouldn't plan your engagement party -- somebody else should. After telling them when you'd like to have it, step away and let the hosts plan it.

I think sooner than later. Meaning in the next 2 months... depends on what kind of party. If you want good weather for outdoors consider that...
