Best time of day for pictures

valgal, on November 17, 2017 at 2:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Hi everyone! So I need some advice. We are getting married in Vegas mid October. I have our ceremony starting at 6:30pm and ending at 7pm with photos starting right after. My question is what time of the day is best for photos? Would they be better at night or during the day? I wanted to see everyone's personal opinion on how their photos turned out during different times of the day. Thanks!

As a photographer, I'll tell you the BEST time for photos is right before sunset. Photographers have a term for it, it's called "the golden hour." Daytime photos are not recommended.

Unfortunately we don't have a photographer yet because we are still playing around with the start time. We have 6:30pm booked for start time but are allowed a one time change for no charge. On the day were are getting married the sunset is at 6:10pm. We wanted to solidify the start time with the best time for pictures. Once we get the start time we were going to hire the photographer.

First or last hour of daylight, ideally. But the luxury of choosing isn’t always there for me.

Try to start photos for 1-1.5 hours before sunset. I'm not a wedding photographer (just family portraits) so I usually tell them 45 minutes beforehand. Ask the photographer you find though! A good photographer will make any light work, it's just that golden glow is so wonderful.

I planned our ceremony time around the time the sun sets in October. lol. Google sunset times for that date the previous year. My wedding is 2 days after yours and the sunset this past October was 6:06. I planned my ceremony to be from 4-4:30 PM and photos will be 4:30-5:30.

PPs have mentioned the golden hour, but wanted to chime in that overcast/cloudy weather will typically turn out beautifully even and soft lighting for great portraiture.
