Best man is moving 1200 miles away!

andrea, on April 23, 2017 at 9:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

I am kind of freaking out. Our best man, my FHs brother got a job 1200 miles away and is leaving tomorrow. Almost 5 months before our wedding. How is this going to work with tux fittings and rehearsals? Has anyone else had this happen or has had a best man from out of state.

Can he not just get a tux from wherever he's living? Also, he doesn't need to come to a rehearsal, just show up for the wedding.

Lots of people have wedding parties who are from further away. We make it work by having few expectations.

I agree with Jessie and if anything most bridal places allow you to buy a color swatch of your exact color of your bridesmaids dresses and you can always mail that to him.

There's a lot more uniformity with tuxes that with dresses. Just ask your groom to say what he wants (black, single breasted, blue tie) or whatever and he'll just get it from wherever he's living.

Myself and FH just moved to Alabama. Our wedding is back home in Michigan and our wedding party lives in the following states: Illinois, Iowa, Texas. This is what bridal salons and tuxedo rentals deal with every single day. You select a tux, everyone goes to their closest location, gets measured and reserves their attire. Realistically, everyone may not make it to your rehearsal either. They are all smart enough to line up, walk down the aisle and stand still for 15 minutes (hopefully).

My MOH is my sister. She lives in Washington state and I live in Michigan. That's awesome that he (BM) got such a wonderful job offer. Don't worry about it, he can get a tux to match from anywhere.

One of my BM is traveling across the country for the wedding and I'm not concerned in the slightest. As long as you use vendors that are widely available (David's Bridal, Men's Wearhouse, Azazie, etc), you'll be fine. If you can't/don't want to use those vendors get him a swatch and he can match the color as best as possible.

He is also not required to attend pre-wedding activities. All he is required to do is show up, on the day in the right clothes, fairly sober.

Rehearsals? How many rehearsals are you going to do?

This is a non-issue. Really, nothing to freak out about.

FH's best man is doing the opposite fortunately but he planned to come a day early so he could be at the rehearsal. Is your rehearsal not the night before? I feel like if I was traveling that far I wouldn't plan to arrive day of but maybe that's just me? And we used men's warehouse because everyone is able to get matching attire and they just have to go to a store close to them.

Most of our bridal party live in different parts of the country. This is why we chose David's Bridal and Men's Wearhouse for their attire. They were able to just go to their closest location and we had accounts open with these stores with our specifications for their attire. And if he lives that far away, I would imagine he'd arrive for your wedding at least the day before the wedding, which is when you would have your rehearsal dinner anyway. And if he can't arrive until late that night, after your rehearsal, I'm sure he'll figure out how to walk down an aisle.

He can get a tux anywhere. You don't even need one rehearsal, but if you do, it's the night before or the day of. It's walking and standing; your venue people will line you up and get you down the aisle. Easy peasy.

My FH BM is his brother and he lives in another state. He is going to get fitted and send the measurements to me so I can pick up his suit where we live. Probably from Men's Warehouse or some place like that. As far as rehearsal I'm not worried. Four ppl in our wedding party live in another state. It will work out just fine.

FH and his brother live in Ontario 2 hrs from me. His best friend the head groomsmen lives in Vancouver. My brother lives in Buffalo, NY. FH's mom has been very helpful and was looking up tux stores and found 2 near both of us in Canada. I just got to bring my brother over the border to the Niagara Falls part of Canada. It is possible to find a place that services nationwide or if not, have him measured to give the shop chosen measurements.

Our groomsmen were all over the country (best man lives seven hours away) so we used Xedo. They're online and ship two weeks before your wedding. Their customer service is amazing too!

As far as the rehearsal, either he's able to take the day before off from work and he'll be there, or he won't. Most people don't need a rehearsal for a standard wedding.

What do you mean by rehearsals? Are you having multiple?

One of my BM's lives far away and it hasn't been an issue. We ordered the BM dresses online and she likes it. She'll take it to a local place to have it fitted. If you go to men's wearhouse for tuxes you pick out what you want them to wear with tie colors, etc. Then he would just go to any MW near him and they will pull up your info and tell him which ones you picked. All of our GM's are local but we didn't go with them to pick tuxes. It's all in the computer.

I'm sure someone can fill him in the morning of the wedding on what he's supposed to do. Rehearsals really aren't necessary.

You're stressing over something that's not a big deal at all. Tux can come from anywhere and the rehearsal, most don't even do anymore.

My brother was a GM, and he lived about 7 hours from me. H picked out suits at Jos A Bank (but I imagine you could do this with tuxes), and basically my brother just had to go to a location near him and they had the info on file. So he got measured, etc, and picked up his own suit.

Our BM just moved to Florida and we live in NJ. But don't think it will be that detrimental. Tuxes are generally easy to match. And the rehearsal isn't something that's going to change much. It's just walking and standing so I wouldn't be too worried.

Thank you for your responses. Typo I only meant one rehearsal and yes we are having one two days before the wedding. I haven't been to many weddings in my life so a rehearsal is necessary for me to be more comfortable

Every single member of our bridal party (bridesmaids and groomsmen) live out of state. The closest is 800 miles away and the farthest is about 1900 miles away. We're getting all our bridesmaids dresses and groomsmen's tuxes at national stores!
