Best Liquid Lipsticks?

ChildressAtLast, on February 1, 2016 at 1:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

I had my hair and makeup trial a couple weekends ago, and because I had super chapped we didn't do any lip color. I've bought the color Patina from Stila, but I was wondering if anyone else had any favorite brands of liquid lipsticks.

I hate having to reapply lipstick constantly. My favorite long wear is from Kat Von D's line at Sephora. That stuff stays on ALL DAY!

I've been using Stila. I have about 7 of them haha. For the wedding though I went with MAC lip stain and gloss.

I used patina from stila and loved it. I exfoliated and moisturized my lips leading up to the wedding and that helped as well.

Sephora's brand is very good. (at 14$ it's easily as good as the others)

I have the nyx new lingerie lippies great line of nudes. Today's my first day with that specific formula, applied at 730 and I feel like at 2 pm after five coffees and now my lunch it's starting to look faded but that's pretty good wear time.

    Their cream formula isn't bad.

Dose of color is okay. I had pretty good luck with it for a 14 hr day.

The Balm :Meet the Hughes is a great line. Super underrated.

My other favorite is DNA Cosmetics. Can be found in Etsy. Love love love their products and reasonable price point and long wearing.

My first batch of color pop is coming this week so I can give a better opinion on them but I hear they rank highly.

Whatever brand your use check how it wears (some just fade off, others crack and peel in a very unattractive manner. With that you then need to check how it handles a second application way later, some liquid lippies peel and flake really badly with a double application.

I use Younique's lip stains, however, I do apply a gloss or chapstick over the stain.

I have Stila's patina and it looks nice...still fairly bold for a neutral color--I almost find it a little gray. That's probably why I won't be wearing it for my wedding. I love Stila's aria too, but that is too dark for the wedding day.

My issue with Stila is that it is not ENTIRELY waterproof/smudgeproof. Stila also HATES lipgloss--it seems to kinda make the Stila dissolve. If I put lipgloss over my Stila stay all day lipstick, it will always disappoint by smudging/moving around when I drink (seriously!! one day I looked like I had been drinking red koolaid!!!). I wear it regularly but won't rely on it on my wedding day.

I have tried all of the major brands and drugstore brands and have found that Revlon Colorstay Overtime is the one that sticks the best. I'm talking like 6 hours with eating/drinking. However, I like Maybelline superstay's color selection the best (Covergirl and maybelline fade, but don't look as bad when they do and don't smudge all over your face like Stila can when drinking) . So what I usually do is put on a thin coat of the Revlon in a color that's similar to the one I actually want to show (anything should work that's not darker than the color you will put on top) and then put on the color I want. This is what I'm going to do the day of the wedding (probably eternal rose in Revlon overtime, with Maybelline's Cinnamon over top).

Also the key with long-wear lipsticks is that you HAVE to put a THIN coat. You'd think more would last longer, but the thicker you go, the faster it seems to dryout/clump up/ crack on your lips. If your first coat is thin, then wait a minute or so and apply another thin coat (or two).

Unhelpful: I'm in love with Nyx's matte "gloss" colors, but they are not long-wear. They're not even particularly long-lasting among other non-long-wear lip colors. But they have beautiful muted colors, smell a little bit of vanilla, and feel good on my lips even though I have to reapply several times a day. Maybe not so great for a wedding, but they might help keep your lips from chapping leading up to the big day. I'm actually considering using it for my wedding as long as I use a lipstain underneath, just because I love it so much. But I'm also watching this thread for other suggestions.

Sephoras cream lip stain. The color really stays! It also has no transfer. It's matte. Excuse the picture.

I also started using Younique's earlier this year. I really like it. It does stay on a while. And I will also put a thin layer on, let it dry a second, and then add another to make it darker. (And as with any lip stain, chapstick is needed immediately - but I am a chapstick addict).

Jeffree Star's Liquid lipsticks are one of the best liquid lipsticks there is. NYX is okay but the wear can be weird depending on which line and color you get. Kat Von D is more expensive that Jeffree Star's and the quality isn't as good as his. Anastasia Beverly Hills has a good line too. I would buy one from a few different companies and then test them for yourself to see how they wear on you.

Stila and Milani. The Milani ones are incredible, the last all day for me through eating, drinking and talking.

Kay Von D is for sure the best I've tried!!!!!!! You can buy it at Sephora. Stays on forever. NYX gets sticky feeling after a while, so I wouldn't go for that one.

Kat von D is my gold standard. But the Balm's meet Matt Hughes ones are up there too. Anastasia's are pretty darn good as well. They have a color called Pure Hollywood that I have yet to find a cheaper dupe for. It is gorgeous! None of them will budge all day, even through eating and drinking. The only thing I find is that all of them sort dry your lips out and they can look a little cracked. I use chap stick (on my finger and then dab it onto my lips so I don't spread the lipstick around). Also worth noting, if you eat something greasy with any of them and do need to reapply, you have to take it all off and start over or it will look really strange...the anastasia is the exception to that. You can reapply right over top of the first layer and it looks great, however, this one does dry down as much as the the others, but still doesn't move unless you want it to. I usually use KVD or Anastasia on my brides...i would use the Balm but the range of shades isn't that good yet. I hope they come out with more soon. Also really wanting to try the new tarte ones soon. Maybe next week.

I'm in love with nyx lingerie collection. They have a bunch of great colors in other collections that I think last a long time. Embellishment is my favorite color from the lingerie line, which I'm wearing in the picture.

I am very particular about what I put on my lips - 99% of brands don't work for me because they make my lips feel sticky. The only two constantly dependable brands I like are Chanel and YSL. Expensive, but totally worth it.
