Best email based invitations that can also direct your wedding website

Cassandra, on February 13, 2018 at 7:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

Hello ladies,

I plan on sending out email invites to most people. I'd like to use a website that allows me to advertise my wedding website since that is where all of the information is including the real RSVP. What do you suggest. Our wedding website is through WeddingWire (not sure if that matters) Thanks in advance!!

I, personally, do not think an email invite is appropriate for a wedding. It seems very inpersonal. You should send actual invites via mail, but you can have an RSVP setting online with directions on how to go to your website.

Make sure to not only have directions on a card or something with the invitation, but also spread the info by mouth.
I recently read on this forum about how a ton of someone's guests threw out the information cards, and had no idea how to RSVP or what website the person used.

Maybe you're sending email invites to save money, but if I got an email invite to a wedding, I'd laugh and think it's a joke. So, make sure you tell people what to expect via vocal communication, and tell them in advance which website to go to and how to RSVP.

Paperless post has this option if I recall.

First, I want to say that I fully support you using email invitations if that fits your vibe. There are a lot of naysayers here that totally reject the possibility, but think of your event and guest list. Will some people be offended? Maybe. Do you care? Maybe not! And that's totally ok. Do what feels right to you as a couple.

Will some invites go to spam? It's possible. But the great thing about an email - you can send it again! Additionally, you can see who has opened the invite, which I find one of the biggest pluses. Follow up with those that haven't opened theirs within a week to make sure it hasn't hit their junk mail. Depending on how large/tech-savvy your guest list is, this could be cumbersome - that's a factor you'll want to take into consideration when making the decision to go paperless or not. And remember, the postal service isn't 100% reliable either! I can't count the number of times we've been delivered mail for other people. And yes, we're generally guilty of taking a while to put that mail back into a mailbox for redelivery. Smiley xd

Personally, we are going the route of paperless because being environmentally conscious is important to us as a couple and we didn't want to be the cause of that much paper waste. Sure, it can be nice to receive a piece of mail nowadays. But honestly, if it's just a thin print out from Vistaprint, etc. I don't think it's a value add. With recent weddings that I've been to, there are times when I'd rather have that information digitally - for example when I'm at work and the miscellaneous weekend events information isn't on the couple's website - only on the insert hanging on my fridge back at home. And it is cheaper. If the particulars of paper invites aren't important to you, go for it! These can get mindbogglingly complex and you can't stress about every single detail of your wedding.

To get to your question (rant over!), I ended up using Appy Couple for my website which has email functionality built in, but I also strongly considered Greenvelope. Beautiful designs and affordable. Paperless Post is also a good option and I know couples that have used this for their miscellaneous wedding events (shower, night before activities, etc.)

Thank you so much for your input and kind words. I've been so discouraged by the replies on WW that I pretty much decided to stop asking. Thank you, it was a breath of fresh air! And for those tech savvy friends of mine, email it is! Smiley smile
