Best dresses to alter

You don’t want to get a dress that needs to be over 2 sizes taken down. So depending on how much your planning on losing, maybe wait until 12 months out before buying the dress. That way, your more to your wedding day size.

Sorry I thought it said 2023 😛, but still consider the limitations on your gown and seamstress. I’m sure they can take it in past 2 sizes. But it’s better to keep it within that range.

I also heard corset dresses are easier for adjustments.

Do not buy a smaller dress expecting to lose weight. It’s easier to take in a dress than let it out if it’s too small. Purchase something that fits you now.


Avoid anything with beads as they have to be removed by hand during alterations.

Stuff with beads and a lot of sequins I’ve been told are harder to alter. I’m also losing weight and will have my dress altered. I do warn though that the shipping times are very long right now due to Covid. I got my dress January 5th and I was pushing it as far as timeline to have it ordered and altered

I am having my dress taken in over 3 sizes - but I chose a dress with clean lines and no lace/ beadwork etc as that is harder to alter. I asked the stylist when trying it on if I could easily take it in
