Best bra/shapewear for backless dress

Ashleigh, on May 13, 2016 at 3:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

My dress will be backless to about right above my hips, and I would feel more comfortable wearing a bra and shapewear but am having a hard time with reviews for certain low back shapewear or backless bras. If anyone has found anything great for boobs on the bigger side (but not huge) and a curvier body that'd be great. Pic is not my dress but generally how low in the back it is.

Does your dress come with a bra built in? That's pretty standard and then you don't need another one

No it didn't, I know you can have one sewn in but I'd rather not. It'd be cheaper to find a backless bra

My thoughts on that is that you should get it sewn in. The backless bras, or sticky things, do not really hold anything up....

I agree in my experience have it sewn it to avoid all night adjusting

Idk if my breasts are on the bigger side or huge. But I'm pretty sure I've had both in my lifetime.

In either case, backless bras are a pain in the ass. They never fit like they should. Sticky bras are a waste of time. My solution is either sewn in cups or most recently taping my breasts.

Dangit. Ok. I guess I'd have to spend money either way. I was looking more for something to help hold em up bc built in bras in shirts or summer dresses kinda made mine look.... err... a bit saggy. Don't need that on my wedding day lol

These built-ins are different because they aren't like sport bras... they are actual cups. My dress has them and they are wonderful!

    Hi Ashleigh

I have a backless dress as well and trust me the worst ordeal ever. Had I would have known how difficult it would be to find something I would of went with a whole different dress. I have small boobs so we had 2 cups sewed in, altered it and day of my wedding I literally have to be taped into the dress.

@Ashleigh, I totally feel you! I have an illusion-lace-back dress and can't wear any sort of "real" shapewear or bra and I've been exploring options for months. I found that the shapewear panties that hold the lower tummy in gave me a ginormous muffin top. I'm just going to have to have cups sewn in and call it a day. I don't think my girls will be as perky as I would like but I've given up.

Two different specialty bra shops told me that backless bras aren't made for sizes larger than a D cup. Your dress looks as low as mine. I bought a regular supportive bustier and brought it to my seamstress. She cut the back of it off completely and sewed the front into my dress. I tried two different bras that were the wrong size (too big in back too small in cup), and they weren't supportive enough or low enough in the back. I am a 36F and this is my dress.

Sorry, I have no idea why my picture is sideways! The lace part of the back above my butt is all sheer. It's hard to tell in this picture.

@MrsPlasters I've actually seen the ad for that before! I thought about it, but I think the straps in the back would show. But it's definitely something to look into.

@Jacqui722 I'm a D cup and not even a full round D at that. I've had 2 kids so my boobs have been in better shape. I guess I just want them looking their best on my big day haha. I think if anything I need something to create the illusion that my boobs look like they did when I was 19. I've read an article that said this was worth a try and the lady who wrote the article was a DD-F depending on the brand of bra. I like cleavage and perkiness but it's a bit expensive so I asked to see if anyone has used something better or cheaper

Wait... You think $34 chicken cutlets are expensive? I was going to suggest a sticky bra that has full cups and sticks under your arms, but is around $60. Spanx makes low-rise shapewear, but you should def try on. Sometimes they create a line at the top for me.

A supportive specialty bra is going to be more than $34. Mine was over $80 and now that it's cut up and sewn into my dress I won't exactly be using it again!

That is a sticky bra, and it has non sticky areas for your nipple lol. So they can be saved the torture. My dress will have capped sleeves so I guess that WILL help with support... I just don't want the dress puckering above my chest or my girls separated because they tend to look bad and saggy when they are lol.
