Being taken advantage of

Laura, on May 20, 2019 at 11:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 22
So I had either a lady 20 minutes away or Safeway to do my flowers. The lady quoted really good prices. And seemed to what I wanted for a vision for flowers. Sooo I told Safeway no thank you. I went to the florist this Saturday. Her prices were twice what she quoted and now she was putting words in my mouth. For inspiration I was like... I want flowers you would pick on a hike in the forest... Now she is trying to put succulants in it. My fault for never learning flower names but I feel so taken advantage of. My wedding is in 32 days I can't go with anyone else.
The florist also said, I kept this day open for you you know. So I'm going to open this again for another client. (I can only afford my bouquet and a couple flower crowns) she also mentioned how she can deliver but now saying that she can't for a small order and I'm just... I'm so stressed. Why are vendors like this?

You should always ask for a quote on paper. However, even then, quotes are quotes and can change. Can you call Safeway and get something? Or look online for flowers? I would definitely not go with that lady after all she has been saying. I think she gave you a quote, but now is upset that she quoted you at something that someone wanted that date and was going to spend more. She just sounds sour.

Maybe you can ask her what she can do for the original quote. Can she substitute the flowers she is using for cheaper options?

Tell her you don't want what she designed, and make it clear you wanted natural, native, and rustic flowers not succulents. Ask her what she can do within her original quote.
Also call Safeway and see what they can do.

Safeway can't do it in 30 days? I would think they could, even if you compromised on some of it and changed the order. If you didn't have a contract with the florist, you owe her nothing.

She sounds rude, manipulative and trying to make others sound like they're in the wrong. How awful!

If you did not call them, I would try. You never know.

Online search online for wedding flowers from online companies. I am not sure what flowers you are really looking for, but that may be your best bet.

I agree with this. I would call Safeway and work something out with them. It sound worth it even if you have to do a little diy.

    This woman sounds awful.

Unless you have it in writing, it's always a he said, she said situation. I'd take your business elsewhere immediately. You may have to compromise on what you want, but it sounds like you're not getting what you want with this lady anyway.

I've found it rather difficult to book any vendors for a small wedding, so I feel your pain! No one wants to take on a small order for a Saturday wedding during wedding season because they do have to hold the date for you, which means larger orders who want that date get passed on. I would go onto instagram and try to find a small florist who is looking to build their business. If you are brave enough, you can order bulk flowers from Costco and do them yourself. It takes alot of time but it will save you money. Good luck finding a new vendor!

It will be more work for you but you could try to order flowers in bulk from Sam's club or Costco. Search Pinterest for guides on what to buy and how to assemble the bouquets/crowns.

I guess that this is a hiccup on my mom and my part. Like we felt oh this is the last resort and gave her half of what she wanted as a down-payment so we are stuck... But we are looking into hobby lobby, Costco and Safeway to help get the other things done for reception... Also silk corsages and boutonnieres on amazon

If you can’t make it work with Safeway (I’m assuming this is a grocery store) I would recommend Sam’s club. They have bouquets already done or DIY. I was going to do Sam’s until I looked into the Shoprite by our venue and they were great.

I mean your wedding date is a month away? I worked for Safeway for 10 years. I remember they had a wedding flowers program. Were you going off that or just what they had? The floral manager would order from an outside vendor for bulk flowers if we didn't have certain flowers or colors during proms and valentine's day. Why is it too late for Safeway? People would always put orders in like a month away and we would make sure we had the flowers. Plus for a supermarket that's an easy job

The lady at Safeway mentioned that she would need it know before may if I were to get the bouquet I wanted. (cascading with forestall flowers with a least one stargazer lily)

Can you call her up and say - I am really sorry, I know that you told me that you needed to about the flowers before May to complete the bouquet that we discussed, but I had a lot going on. I know that it's probably not possible, but I just wanted to know if there was anyway that you could make it or something similar within 32 days?

I would recommend using the phrase "that it's probably not possible" - this is per my sales trainer who says, that people are usually nice, and want to please.

    Good luck!

Get quality faux flowers online. Amazon can deliver to you in a couple days. I wouldn’t give a dime to a lady who told me my event wasn’t important enough because of the size.

IMO, you should avoid this headache if you can, and go with something DIY and easy from Sam's Club. They deliver and they're very affordable, especially if you do a lot of greenery and keep it simple. Check it out on here, there are a few great posts about it.

I was just thinking about this some more - maybe there's a misunderstanding here... see if you can send her inspo pics and get a new quote? Succulents are expensive!

My future mother in law has some experience with gardening so she is going to help me flowers that I want in the bouquet exactly when I see her this weekend. I was going to contact the florist with a list and pictures.
