BEER - Keg, bottles or cans??

Mariah , on March 29, 2016 at 10:11 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

The time is quickly approaching to purchase beer for the wedding! Just curious what route people are going?? Renting a Keg, purchasing cans or bottles? For a wedding of 160 just curious what my best options are?

I'm not sure what your venue is or the feel of your wedding is like, but I would think that Kegs would be the most economical, but for 160 guests, you will definitely need a couple of options since I'm sure you'll have a variety of people. Personally, I'm terrified of running out of things (especially alcohol!), so if it were me, I'd probably overestimate on the kegs, and you can always have backup supply w/ some bottles if you want. I don't love drinking out of a beer can.

    ETA - typing is hard = (

We are going with cans. Glass bottles and the dance floor don't mix. Someone broke a bottle at the last wedding we were at... the dance floor had to be cleared and it was a huge mess.... we are also using koosies

Thanks! I am leaning more towards kegs, I am scared of the glass! I am sure we will have people dancing, and the wedding is not the most formal, but it is nice enough that I do not know if I want cans. @Angela I am so scared to run out too!!

In my opinion: if there is a bartender, go with bottles and cans. If it is an outdoor wedding in a field or something and a very casual atmosphere where guests get their own drinks, I would think a few different kegs would be fine.

Check with your venue and see what they prefer. One place I looked at specifically said no kegs.

@Mariah - I was at a wedding recently where they ran out of all beer at just the cocktail hour! The groomsmen had to run to the store in the middle of the reception! It wasn't that big of a deal, but I would've been horrified! I'd rather be left w/ the beer at the end of the night that not have enough. Seems like Kegs are a good option for you! If there is a bartender, it will just be like getting a nice draft beer at a bar!

We're going to do kegs. It seems like the most economical way. And if we buy too many, you can usually return them if they're unopened.

And we are doing bottles. In my mind, they seem a little nicer. I am not too worried about glass on the dance floor because I know our guests, and our wedding is set to end at 8:00, so not too late.

I personally don't like cans. I would do bottles or keg. I'm still deciding between the two. I feel like with bottles you can have more options. I don't want to rent three or four kegs. I'll be following this too!

Following! I'm not a fan of cans so I'm thinking either kegs or bottles as well.

We had the same question and we ended up with bottles because they looked nicer. But it depends on your venue. We just didn't want pictures of a keg or cans in our wedding photos.

Our wedding will be about 175 people (200 are invited), so similar in size to yours Kegs are the most economical, but we are going with cans. It's faster to pop a tab than to pour a pint. We're worried about back up lines at the bar.

I would do bottle or keg. I think bottles look nicer than a can and a keg can be behind the bar.

@Mariah, we are considering having a small, specialty keg just for the reception, too, but that would be in addition to all our cans. That might be an option for you -- a keg supplemented by cans, so that you avoid a huge line while also being somewhat economical.

Kegs would be economical but I've only ever been to one wedding with kegs, every other wedding I've been to had bottles. A keg should be hidden behind the bar and you should have actual glasses, not plastic cups for the beer. I think cans are too informal, they look tacky.

I would prefer bottles or kegs. You can keep the keg behind the bar and have the bartender pour it into glasses.

I would prefer bottles but kegs are cheaper, plus you could buy fun custom plastic cups for everyone to use!

@Desireecox I do like the idea of custom cups, I looked at a few online, just trying to find the best deal. I was thinking I could do that as the favor. I was going to make little pottery pinch pots with succulents, but that proved to be extremely time consuming!
