Bed Bath & Beyond Registry Vent

We went to create our registry at Bed Bath and Beyond today and had a somewhat terrible experience. The lady followed us around and gave us no time to browse for some items we would want. She held the scanner the entire time which was frustrating since FH and I heard how much fun it was to go around and scan all the items. When we would pick cheaper items (like silverware) she would tell us how horrible the $80 set was and insist we add the $199 set. Was anyone else's experience like this? This was the first place we went so I am not sure if I just had unrealistic expectations for how it would go.

We had the same exact experience registering for our engagement party. The woman walked us around the whole store talking for 2 hours straight, pushing items we didn’t want, giving us dirty looks when we didn’t want to scan something. She held a scanner and I held a scanner. We were there for 2 hours and only went through half of the store. FH was so beyond bored, we didn’t really care for anything we were scanning and we just decided to leave. She tried to make a follow up appointment for a certain day. I told her no thank you and left. I then got an email that I was scheduled for a follow up appointment for the day I told her I couldn’t, meaning she scheduled it anyhow. I cancelled the appointment and ended up deleting our entire registry. Very pushy employees and rather annoying.

I have a registry there and that did not happen to me. The lady gave me the gun and left me to it to scan whatever my heart desired, ALONE. I had a blast!! I don't think that is normal

I haven't but I heard basically the exact same story from my friend who just registered there this morning! She said she went home and basically started over online.

We pretty much said this to the lady that was “helping” us. She handed us the scanner and once she did I said “Thanks. I’ll bring it back when we are done” and walked away. We created our registry in peace.

I am so glad FH and I were not alone in our experience! I was so excited to register and after 1.5 hours of hitting pots and pans, place settings, and kitchen appliances, FH said "so, how does the rest of this work? Can we just take the scanner and go?" We finished the rest of the store in less than an hour. We had the opposite with price points though... FH is a chef and knows what he wants when it comes to kitchen stuff. After picking a few of the higher end things, our consultant said "remember to include things in all price points." Yes, yes, we understand. But you started us off in kitchen appliances... blenders, mixers, and pots and pans - not exactly the cheapest area.

We did go back this week, to another store, to add more things. This location was amazing, and the consultant apologized for our previous experience. I thought it was interesting when I talked with a coworker who had registered there said she had the same experience.

We had a wonderful experience at BB&B! She showed us how the scanner worked, asked if we wanted her to go with us and had no problem when we declined. She did check in with us a time or two, even gave us bottled waters. I'm looking forward to going back!

That wasn't our experience at all! The guy manning the counter was funny, maybe a little too chatty, but no pressure. He scanned an item and deleted it to show us how and then left us to it. He did try to tell us to add more items when we stopped at ~45, but we declined to add more and he dropped the subject.

Weird. We registered at BBB and the associate didn't even come with us. She gave us the scanner and said, have at it. Call me if you need me.

I wish our lady would've been that simple. We asked many times to just leave us be and she wasn't having it. Eventually we just left.

Oh wow! I definitely would have left if they didn’t hand it over - I thought they were just there to help you get started...I’d definitely say something to a manager then.

Macys wasn't like that for me. They explained the store layout and then gave us the scanner and we went around ourselves. I'd consider going there instead.

We had a similar experience. We had an appointment. We waited 20 minutes to sit down with someone to go over stuff that I already knew. Then she got us a scanner and walked around with us but let us hold it. She kept trying to make me add stuff that I told her one we didnt need and two we didnt have room for. She was very pushy and we didnt get to really anything but kitchen. We were there for an hour and a half. I ended up finishing my registry online as she insisted setting us another appointment. If I go in there and want something I just use my phone to scan into my registry now. It was nice cause we got two cute coffee mugs but that girl was so annoying! And she wanted us to but let 16 sets on our registry for dishes to cover our whole family I was like you are crazy lady lol

Oh my gosh, I’m sorry you guys had to deal with that. I would have yelled at her, then the manager and then left. You’re there to pick what you want, not for them to decide what you want!! Now I know I won’t be registering there!!

The same thing happened to us. I created an online registry beforehand and added some things I knew we wanted ahead of time, but we still wanted to experience of going around the store with the scanner. Not only did she keep us in the registry office for a half hour explaining things we already knew but she was trying to sell us dishware we didn't need the whole time and banged it on the desk showing us how sturdy it was. When we finally got to walk around she followed us the whole time and tried to sell us on things we didn't even want. She was so pushy and took the scanner from my hands a few times and scanned things I told her I didn't want insisting I'll thank her someday. If you want the actual registry experience a friend told me Macy's was the way to go, wish I listened.

My fiance doesn't even believe in a registry. I will be honest it was more fun and easier to do things online because you can read reviews and compare items and if you have a second registry, see if it is cheaper elsewhere. They are the best with the return policy and other things so I wouldnt even sweat it

I’m so sad to hear you ladies had horrible experiences. I had a wonderful experience doing my registry at BBB. The rep who helped us offered to scan the items or told us we could. She sat down and made a list of items we needed and she made sure we got every isle in the whole store. She insisted we added items of all price ranges so your guests can have options. Never once did she push a more expensive item. She was knowledge about the items in store and had many recommendations.

This is exactly why I did online registries. This would have driven both FH and I nuts... Sorry :/

I had a very different experience at my local BBB. The lady definitely wanted to walk around with us, but I was firm that we didn’t want that, just show us how to use the scanner thing and we will meander. She gave in once she saw that I wasn’t going to budge lol.

Sorry that happened to you, that really blows :/

FH and I were left completely alone to do what we wanted, and it was much more fun. I would have hated your experience. Let them know how horrible it was, and maybe take your business elsewhere.
