Bed Bath & Beyond Registry Vent

kbrands, on February 18, 2018 at 8:21 PM Posted in Registry 0 70

We went to create our registry at Bed Bath and Beyond today and had a somewhat terrible experience. The lady followed us around and gave us no time to browse for some items we would want. She held the scanner the entire time which was frustrating since FH and I heard how much fun it was to go around and scan all the items. When we would pick cheaper items (like silverware) she would tell us how horrible the $80 set was and insist we add the $199 set. Was anyone else's experience like this? This was the first place we went so I am not sure if I just had unrealistic expectations for how it would go.

I used to work for them. When a couple came in we were told to do that, to me it didn't feel right. I don't know if it was just my store or not. I actually got fired for "pretending" I was walking with my couple but letting them pick what they wanted. I hope everything turns out good for you.

No that is not a normal experience. You should have been left alone to scan items as you wanted. Fortunately, you can go online for most registries so you don't have to go through this again.

OMG. I read this and had to double check to make sure I didn’t post this! Lol
My FH and I literally had the same experience. We had a woman following us around the store and telling us to scan things we really didn’t want and then talking down about the things we did. It was awful. I don’t even know what we put in our registry because it was so stressful and there were many things we scanned just to shut her up. The website is also difficult to navigate. It would have been much better if they didn’t send the woman around with us and let us privately scan what we actually need.

Sorry you had this experience but why not speak up and say you want to scan items yourself. If anyone salesperson ever told me that what I picked out was no good, I would tell him/her that I don’t care to be spoken to like that and I will take my business elsewhere.

    I registered online with Amazon.

We did ask to have the scanner and be left on our own and she told us no several times. I eventually told her that I couldn't take anymore and we left. I came home and basically deleted everything and realized we ended up just wasting over an hour there.

Pretty terrible customer service that they teach employees to do this. I plan to complain online to let them know how horrible the experience was and basically tell them I plan to delete my registry and take my business elsewhere.

We really wanted the in store experience. We both like to see things before we buy them. Hopefully other stores won't be so bad.

We had the exact same experience. We didn't even get halfway through the store before we decided to just leave and finish registering online at home.

Our experience was nothing like that. I'm sorry your experience was so sucky. I would ask for someone else and possibly complain about her. BBB definitely has good stuff so try again!

We had a lady at BBB who definitely tried to convince us scan some stuff that was more expensive that what we wanted, but she also knew a lot and gave us some really good advice. She held the scanner while she walked with us for about an hour and showed us a few different categories of stuff but then she showed us how to use it and let us go off on our own for as long as we wanted. That’s so weird that your person wouldn’t let you scan your own stuff!

Ugh, the lady who helped us at our BB&B was super annoying. First she insisted we check out their fancier place settings even though we were clear we were interested in more everyday stuff. We’re not fancy people. Then she insisted we register for 12 of each piece. I told her I think 6 is fine. We live in a small apartment with no real kitchen storage, and while our plan is to buy a house in the next couple years, we’re not exactly sure when it will be. She refused to put 6 in the scanner gun, and told me that we’ll need the extra place settings for when we “entertain or have dinner parties”. She tried to add some fancy napkins even after I said we don’t want them. We finally talked her into relinquishing the gun and letting us wander. First thing I did was slash the number of place settings in half! She kept popping up every 10 minutes or so, asking if we saw this or that. She tried pushing a Kitchen Aid mixer pretty hard and acted like I must be utterly insane when I said I don’t want one.

We both got pretty tired of the whole process quickly so we really weren’t there long. I added a few things online, but our registry is pretty small.

We did the same thing! We came home and immediately went to delete stuff we didn't actually want. I would've appreciated a list of suggested items and left to be on our own where we had time to look at things rather than being forced into ridiculous decisions. Not to mention when we viewed our registry online we noticed that at least five of the items we scanned in store were listed as discontinued on the website.

If we hadn't drove 35 minutes one way to get there we probably would have. However, since we drove all that way we decided to just go through with it.

We asked at least five times and every time she just said no I'll do all of this for you. I just felt like she was acting like we were five year olds. I'm glad to hear that some others had better experiences though!

Yep. Same exact experience. I had to repeatedly tell her that I wasn't trying to break my guests' wallets. At the end, she scolded me for not having enough stuff on there for all of my guests to buy. I went home and immediately deleted all of the crap she scanned in there, cancelled the follow-up appointment she made for me, and added what I wanted. It was horrible.

I had heard negative stories regarding wedding registries and BB&B, so my husband and I decided not to register with them. We registered at Target and did most online.

That is exactly how our process started but unfortunately stayed that way for our entire trip. I eventually told her I couldn't take it any longer and we left. I don't understand why they feel everyone needs fine china that costs over $100 a setting to use once a year, if that. We are in the same situation - currently living in an apartment, we've lived together three years and already have a ton of good quality items, and we want to buy a house soon yet have no idea how much space we will have. It is frustrating that no matter how many times you explain this to them, they just keep pushing.

Did you do any of the registry in store at Target? If so, how was that? I've heard they just set you up and let you go on your own.
