Beautiful blingy belt snags on my full lace dress!

Rissachu, on May 8, 2019 at 9:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

My FMIL bought me a beautiful (expensive) blingy belt that looks gorgeous with my dress! The problem is it snags on my lace dress when I bend over or pretty much move. I've heard of putting clear nail polish on the gems so it doesn't snag, but I am hesitant. The belt was expensive enough to where I can't forego it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can you see if you can see the belt on in your alterations?

Can you put a ribbon on the back of the belt so it’s not directly touching your dress? Or have the ribbon and belt sewn on like the PP said

You can try coating it in clear nail polish

Do you have a pic? What part exactly is snagging? The prongs on the rhinestones? Or something else? Seems like you would need a life of nail polish.

I would be hesitant to put clear nail polish on the stones because it can change the “blingy-ness“ of your stones. When you cover it with clear polish, it covers the facets, which are what light bounces off of. It’s like the difference in glass rhinestones and plastic ones. The nail polish coats and kind of turns them into plastic type stones (if that makes sense).

Nail polish works! We would do that in my pageant days and it works really well. It may be that the prongs are not pressed down enough or they could be compressed a tad more. But I would try nail polish first. If it doesn't work, you won't be able to see it anyway

I have a lace dress where a sparkly belt was sewn on and it snags the lace mostly when not on, when putting it on and taking it off. I put clear tape over the belt when I'm not wearing it. It helps. It also helps that the dress is sleeveless

There is a sash on the belt.

I also have a lace dress and a blingy belt that was getting caught on the lace. My seamstress is sewing the belt into the dress so that it can't move and she is pressing all of the prongs down super tight and flat.

I think clear nail polish over the gems is your best bet, and least detectable. I don't think she would notice.

Based on several suggestions, I think I'll take it to the fitting appointment and see what can be done.

I agree with putting the sash on the back of the belt but I would also talk to alterations and see if they can do anything to help!
