Beach Wedding in July in FL? Advice needed.

Trenicia, on December 18, 2015 at 3:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 38

A little background, I'm new to WW and I'm already married but am doing a 2nd ceremony for my family to be involved. We picked 07/16/16 in Treasure Island, FL on the beach. We're originally from FL but I can't remember how hot it actually is during July around 5-6pm. Hubby isn't worried about the heat or rain as much as I am. We are also having an outdoor reception, but a shaded outdoor reception with fans and bug zappers and it has a roof incase of rain Smiley smile Too hot? Or too rainy? Help!

It is extremely hot, very humid and rainy. It usually thunderstorms every afternoon (this past summer was really bad). It would not be very pleasant to attend an outside wedding in the middle of summer in florida but you may have a tiny breeze being on the beach...

    Three words: mosquitoes, humidity, lightning.

I live near to that area. July is hot, period. Rain is almost inevitable every afternoon/evening. Sounds risky to me if you're planning all outdoor activities. Not saying it can't be done, but more risky compared to, say, the fall months. I'm also doing a beach wedding ceremony and picked November to mitigate as many risks as possible.

Also, keep in mind you're in prime-time for hurricane season.

I officiate a LOT of beach weddings in Manatee & Sarasota Counties. Yes, it is hot & humid mid-July which is why I schedule my ceremonies for 1/2 hour before sunset (which is close to 8:30 at that time of year). There is also less chance of rain at that time of day.

Turtle season runs May 1 - Oct. 31, so you won't be able to have lights on the beach after dark.

My advice, as a CFL bride, is: DON'T DO IT. Maybe have something indoors at a nice venue overlooking the water, but don't do it outside in July. Even at 5 or 6pm it is really hot and humid, and as Kristin said, likely to be wet from rain.

What Kristin said. It rains everyday in that part of the year at approximately 3pm.

NOOOO - As a Florida resident I plead with you, DO NOT HAVE AN OUTSIDE ANYTHING! Its sticky, hot, wet, humid, your hair will fall, your makeup will melt your family will hate you... IF you have to do it in FL please wait till around Nov/Dec... I wanted an outdoor ceremony and we are waiting until December because it is simply miserable outside. And its raining...alll thee timmeee...

You only go outside in the summer if your are wearing a bathing suite and you're near the water...IMO

ETA: cause I seem to be having some difficulties today

I'm a FL resident also. Holy balls a wedding in July with 100% humidity in the 90s in a wedding dress.... I'm dreading this for you.

I would highly recommend you push your date into the fall. But if you're absolutely set on this time of year, please make it super casual for your sake and the sake of your guests. It's going to be HOT. Mosquitoes aren't usually too bad on the beach, but the chances or rain are high and it is going to be miserably hot.

Is your date flexible at all?

The ceremony has to be in July, as we already have reserved the date and taken the time off. The ceremony will be 30 mins tops, and that's pushing it. Even with a shaded event area and bug zappers, you still think it will be too hot? It is casual attire...

Yes, too hot, I'm miserable just walking from my car into a store in July, let alone standing outside for the 30 minute ceremony and several hours more for the tented reception. No. Please no. No.

Yes ma'am. It is still boiling hot between 5-6. It won't start cooling off until after 8pm. Are you open to adjusting the time? Nancy made a good point about scheduling about 30 min before sunset.

So now I'm thinking beach wedding with an indoor reception to combat the hot air. Maybe at a nearby resort?

As a born Floridian, I have to ask.. Where do you live? Because there is a reason all the ladies above are saying what they are and I have to agree with them.

No one ever mentions the wind gusts that happen on the beach either (or is that more east coast?)

Also...and I'm not saying this to be 'that person'...but don't like 95% of the "Florida Man/Woman" stories come from the St. Petersburg/Tampa/Clearwater area?

Again, born and raised an hour from Miami I have seen my fair share of crazy, but back to the point at hand. Try for indoors maybe something waterfront, if not for you, for your guests.

Yes, indoor reception is good. Very, very good. Also, for the outdoor ceremony, please be sure you provide your guests with plenty of COLD bottled water and some sort of hand-held fans for before/during/after the ceremony. They'll need it.

Sorry! My post came a minute late, now I look rude.

That's what I get for typing at work.

Best of Luck in your planning though!

I currently live in California where it is also SUPER hot in July but more like dry fire heat. I was raised in FL though but it's been awhile since I've been there during the summer times. I'll find a venue inside for the reception. But my it's been my husband and I's dream for a beach wedding ceremony.

It's extremely hot. Don't do it, please. July and August are definitely the most humid and hottest months. I honestly probably would not attend an outdoor wedding here in the summer unless it was for my best best friends. We're having ours in Sarasota in March, but that's typically a beautiful time here. From May-October it's very hot and humid.
