Be aware of Vendors

Shana, on May 5, 2020 at 8:22 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

Dear Brides,

I hope ya'll are doing amazing. I wanted to share something with you that recently happened. I had a vendor, that I already paid a downpayment for file for bankruptcy.

Initially I was totally frustrated because I was wondering why they stopped responding and it wasn't until I did my research I found they had filed for bankruptcy. Talk about nonsense. I went with my gut when they started pushing me to pay the full amount, although my wedding is in October and after I paid my deposit (half by the way). Luckily I had paid with our "wedding credit card" and I was able to dispute the charge but it still leaves us without a band for our wedding....off to searching again.

My recommendation to all of you is to make sure you are protected. I think with the COVID times, you don't know what their financial situation will be coming out of this, and its better to make sure you do a lot of research to ensure the company or places you are using are credible. The smaller guys, although we love supporting them, may not make it and leave you with a challenge to deal with.

I have decided that I am only sending positive energy out there. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else, but just sharing my experience in hopes it might help you.

Sending light and love!

    Hi Nefetera,

    You are welcome!!

There is an open investigation. I had to provide my receipts, the communications with the vendor, and also the bankruptcy information. They said it will be returned, but they have to do the investigation to it. I was like....phew glad I didn't pay with my bank card!

I just worry about brides who may order their dresses or have them tailor made for example...you know.

Oh rats! I hope it doesn’t happen. I am now checking with all my vendors and seeing what my gut tells me.

I was a bit frustrated because their talent as a band doesn’t just disappear. I wished they were more honest about keeping good to their word.
Sending positive energy your way! Hope you don’t experience this!

It is so tragic to me to think of all these small businesses having to shut down completely because of cancelled events and refunds they can't afford. Bankruptcy is a legal option available to those who cannot otherwise pay their bills. So many sad stores all around.

We all love our small and local vendors. It is sad! As much as we want to support local, it’s the small guys that don’t make it.

Fingers crossed— we get this machine going again!

This is why my husband and I canceled the original wedding. We couldn't postpone for many reasons and were fearful that our original vendors may go under during this time. By pulling out we were able to retain about 23k and lose only about 2k. While I understand businesses are struggling, I cannot take a financial hit like that. Now we can throw together a celebration at a later date when things do calm down.

Omg sorry to hear about this, but so glad you were protected! Thank you for the advice. I was thinking the same thing about vendors and if they will be able to survive this crisis, especially the smaller ones that maybe just starting off!
