BBQ Tacky or Not

Staci, on April 5, 2017 at 1:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 34

I am torn between what we want to serve our guest. Our wedding is all outdoors under big trees with moss hanging off. The dance floor is under market lights and all the trees surrounding are wrapped in lights. So my question is would it be tacky to serve Smoked Beef Brisket via Carving station

Pulled BBQ pork

Flame Grilled BBQ chicken

Gourmet Mac & Cheese

Red skin potato salad

Cole slaw( which I'm gonna ask to substitute)

Garlic rolls

Or should we go more traditional beef, chicken etc?

Not tacky at all. What is the weather usually like in February where you live?

BBQ sounds delicious to me! But will it be warm enough for you to be outside the whole time in February?

Not at all! Quite common here. Just have sturdy plates and cutlery and lots of napkins. Can't go wrong.

In my opinion it's your wedding and you should be able to do what you'd like. Times have changed so much and who's to say we have to stick with the traditional. If your guests don't like it then they could of course kindly leave lol. But you're paying so they should be grateful and honored that they were included an a part of such a special occasion.

Honestly I'd rather have your menu than banquet beef and chicken.

I second the other voices asking if you have an inclement weather plan.

I'm having BBQ at my wedding, so of course, I don't find it tacky at all! We have a few vegan/vegetarians on our list, so we are having a few pounds of BBQ portobello as well.

Your menu sounds delicious, as long as it's a catered meal then I see no problem with it at all. The photo looks beautiful, hopefully you have a backup plan for icky weather.

BBQ is not tacky at all. I live in a city that is famous for barbeque so I frequently see it at weddings and other events.

Please be sure to have a vegetarian option available though.

I live in southwest Florida so it's warm year around. I do have a backup tent and the ceremony can be moved indoors if needed but keeping my fingers crossed weather is beautiful! I didn't even think about the vegetarians. Thank you all for reminding me. Even tho it's buffet there will be servers. Thanks everyone for the responses! I feel better about our choice now : )

@FB99 Yes, we are having a cocktail hour. I have display apps and passed apps. They would provide alcohol if needed but my venue lets us bring our own just have to use his bartenders.

I am going with a bbq as well, with almost the same menu.

Wanted something different them the usually formal sit down dinner.

Can I come to your wedding!? My sis had a BBQ buffet at her wedding and the food was awesome and nicely presented so still felt appropriate for the occasion. As another member pointed out, throw in a vegetarian option and I think you're right on track to have an awesome reception! What can you swap the cole slaw for? I think something light like a salad or a green veggie might go nicely with the rest of your menu.

    ETA now I'm soooooo hungry...

@WWJo lol sure come on! I was thinking green beans but you mentioning salad I think would be nice. Like a garden salad something lighter. Thanks for that idea!
