bbq Reception Before Sunset Ceremony Invite Help

Ginger, on March 21, 2021 at 3:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
Question for everyone. Our wedding ceremony is planned at sunset 8:00pm on the beach so we plan to have a BBQ beforehand with live music at the beach house we’ve rented. I am not sure the best way to word our invite as it’s not in anyway traditional. Should I have the time of the ceremony and add an itinerary enclosure about the barbecue? Thoughts...

This sounds so fun! I think since you are taking a non-traditional approach to the wedding and reception, you can definitely take a non-traditional route with the invitations as well! Typically people put the time of the ceremony on the invitations with “reception to follow”. You could do the opposite! You can put the time of the dinner, then put “ceremony to follow”.

Not knowing where you are -- have you checked out sunset from that rented house more than a couple of times. I know 5 couples who planned sunrise (1) or sunset (4) ceremonies. 3, they should have known that although nearby areas had a great sunrise daily, the particular location chosen for their rental fogged in/ misted in/ clouded over daily at that time. Except for the occasional rainy day. I live in the mountains where some areas are like that at certain times of year. My y brother living not far from LA has never seen a sunset, one block from the ocean, though friends within a couple miles either direction, do. Inns and restaurants know. But near us some houses will take a rental months in advance knowing people won't get what they want, and not caring. Or they may know that sunset time stinks. And just as you are leaving, light from north or south has the kind of pollution that ripples the sky with pinks and oranges and purples. And after you give up, this indirect light off pollution , from another direction, is gorgeous. So depending where you are, check it out. Seaside weather is fickle.

We live in Savannah not far from Tybee Beach where we are having our ceremony. Summer time he sun sets later and we’ve visited the spot to make sure I works. It’s steps from the house we rented and more of a private beach. Thank you for your input and suggestions. 😊

What a beautiful area. Is it on a peninsula, that sunset over the water is to the west? You know what you are getting, that is great!

    Outstanding! How fun!
Not sure how to word it either but the thought of gathering and socializing prior to the wedding ceremony sounds fantastic. Keep us posted.
