So my FH wants this Barbecue company to cater our wedding ... I was kinda going for a more elegant feel with 3 choice entrees chicken, beef and fish however he has let me plan mostly everything my way so i would like to have something i know he will love What do you think ladies is a BarQ reception...

I so love BBQ but definitely wouldn't want to get dressed up to go eat it. If it's a laid back reception I say go for it. If you do decided to go with it and have a formal setting DO NOT i repeat DO NOT serve ribs or sandwhiches. FH wanted BBQ I killed that dream really fast. BBQ we're both wearing Ivory = Negative

@rachele- if you theme is class and elegance, i dont feel that ribs and bbq chicken are tying into that theme. bbq is more along the lines of a super laid back outdoor wedding or a sexy country themed wedding held in a rustic type facility or an a farm

BBQ is AWESOME, I will be the first to tell you, but make sure you have alternatives as some of yours guests might have issues they prefer not to discuss i.e. Acid Reflux

We're doing BBQ, just because it's BBQ does not mean it can't be elegant :-D At least it'll be GOOD, hearty, stick-to-your bones kinda food than a thin piece of chicken and some green beans on the side with a hard-ass dinner roll. Pffffffffft. Go for BBQ!

Heck yeah girlfriend! Like others have said BBQ can still be really nice. It's all about what you serve, how you serve it and the decor!

We're doing BBQ. The place that the venue, a Victorian Bed and Breakfast uses to cater the BBQ is an absolute favorite of mine and FH and it helped us stay in budget. My thoughts were our guests can get Beef, Chicken, Fish anywhere but where can they get really good Georgia BBQ. So we made all the food Georgia themed and are going to serve a local Brewery, Sweetwater, as the beer to give our OOT families a taste of what we love and something the family who live here already love. MIL flipped for a minute five but she came around and is as excited as we are.

There is a way to have BBQ food in an elegant setting. Speak with the caterer and see how you can have BBQ favorites dressed for your occasion. If that company can't do it then maybe you can find another caterer who will

As long as the food is good I say go for it...do what you both are comfortable with. I think too many people plan their wedding around trying to "PLEASE" everybody else.

Can't please everybody so do what will make you and your fh smile on your day!

Barbecue sounds great. You would need to consider the type of theme you're going for though. Keep in mind that guests may be in their formal wear, and barbecue can get a little messy :-)

I think BBQ is great! We wanted to do the same but have decided to go with Cuban food instead (our families are both Cuban)

Like Michele said, just pick stuff that isn't as messy and you can still make it somewhat elegant...

It all depends on you two! Our mentality is we want everyone to have a good time and feel relaxed with good food! If elegance is a big deal to you then talk with your FH to come to a happy medium....
