Bariatric surgery before wedding ??

Amanda, on March 28, 2018 at 3:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30
So I’m going to post a few dresses I’ve tried in for some opinions , but my major issue is my wedding is next may and I am supposed to be getting the gastric sleeve within the next two months, has anyone had experience with this during wedding planning , my fear is that I’m going to pick a dress that flatters me now but if I’m think would I be interested in the same style ? If you’ve had experience I need an idea of how much weight I’d loose

I would hold off on getting a dress then! Like you said it may flatter you now, but not in the future. I would wait until September/October to find a dress. Good luck with the surgery & recovery process!

I would wait until July to order a dress. You'll have lost some weight by then and have an idea of if your shape is going to change and still have time to get a dress in and altered. I haven't had surgery but I have lost 100 pounds and my shape is exactly the same....just smaller. Lol. So the same styles remained flattering they're just smaller and look better now. Smiley smile

    Good luck!!

I lost over 100 pounds with diet and exercise so my origional size was like 26 to 28 depending on fit
When i was done i was size 14
My mom is great at sewing and she tried to alter some of my favorite shirts
Just shirts...they were similar but never fit the same. They still seemed too big to me in places and ok in others like maybe ok in arms too big in shoulder stomach
Plus depending on if they had fancy print on the side she said altering could change that somehow
That was just for my shirts she never did anything to my dresses but after 2 shirts were changed i just bought new clothes in my size
As for wedding i dont know
But good luck! Ive struggled with weight all my life

I also love the first dress on you! I would wait to order a dress...if you order something now that has a lot of detail, beading, etc and you go to alter the dress later it will not only cost you a fortune in alterations but may change the whole structure of the dress and you may wind up with something you don't even like anymore. Good luck!! Smiley smile

You have plenty of time to order a dress. Most take 8-6 months to come in so you can definitely wait until you are post surgery to get started.

I think that first one is the most flattering on you now, but would also be flattering on you after you end up losing some weight! But I would hold off on getting a dress. You look AMAZEBALLS in that first one Smiley love

Definitely, wait to get a dress. I only lost 40 pounds since ordering my dress and alterations are a pain.

You can get a dress anywhere from 9-10 months before the wedding and be fine. No need to rush!

Wow I think you look slamming in all 3 dresses, I'm sure you will look great after your surgery too, but yeah, I would wait to purchase a dress until your weight has leveled out a bit.

For what it's worth, Dress #1 is simply stunning and that style looks incredible on pretty much every shape. But you'll most likely need a much, much smaller size. Waiting is your best bet, if you're getting the surgery soon. You look fab, though!

I haven’t done the surgery, but I recently lost 30 lbs since buying my dress. I bought the dress in WI since the wedding will be there, but I live in NC. I have lost 15 lbs since my last fitting in December and won’t be getting the dress until the week before when I get up there. My seamstress was extremely helpful and she brought the dress in just a tad tighter since she knew I was losing weight. Since I’m smaller than that now she is leaving the dress open for final adjustments when I try it on next month. She is able to do the adjustments in under and hour with me there. I do have to pay for two alterations, but they all have been extremely easy to work with and I have been able to maintain the healthier lifestyle. You can absolutely wait, but I would definitely recommend talking to a seamstress and see what would work with your schedule and give you the best ease of mind. All those dresses are gorgeous!

You will lose weight rapidly with some plateaus between these times of rapid loss. I had the gastric sleeve just over 1 year ago. I have lost 120 lbs during this time. I had looked at dresses for a few months without trying any on, so I could figure out what I would like style wise. I saw one dress that I loved at David's Bridal, and currently I could fit this everywhere except on my arms, due to excess skin from the weight loss. What I am now doing instead us having my dress made through Anomalie. I am getting one with a functional corset, so even with losing weight the dress will still fit as this can be tightened. I'm also getting an A-line design, so any weight loss from thr waist down will not impact the dress design. From experience though, dont but clothes too early. I was droppong clothes sizes so quickly that some items didnt get any or very little use. Wait as long as you can while still allowing time for any alterations prior to your wedding. I wish you all the best with your procedure. It isnt easy, but it sure is worth it.

Good luck with your surgery, and wait to pick out a dress. Plus that doll is super creepy.
