barefoot to heel dress hem

Laura, on May 17, 2013 at 11:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Ok so I'm still holding out that I'll be able to wear wedges for our beach ceremony, but if I do go barefoot, I still want my heels for the reception. How would I go about hemming my dress if that happened? Is there a way to get a temporary hem or something of the sort?

There really is no way around it. It will either be too short part of the day, or too long. And I have no clue how a temporary hem would work, if there even is such a thing. Depending on your dress type, you may be able to have a custom slip that has lace or something pretty at the end that you can take off for the beach, and put on for the reception.... But if you have a poufy dress, I feel that a slip would look funny, since it would hang more straight down.

Maybe a bustle in the front, too? Could look like a pick-up.

I think your dress will drag in the sand no matter what, so it may not be a big deal if its a little too long for the ceremony.

What kind of dress are you wearing? If its a single layer, the seamstress could probably do a basting stitch that could just be cut after the ceremony, but the hem of the dress will look weird (if its not pressed for the ceremony, it will form a bubble; if it is pressed for the ceremony, then when you take the stitch out, there will be a pleat where at the shorter hemline). If the dress is any more complicated, this wouldn't work.

I am wearing a ballgown but I am taking a couple layers out. I think I will just go with wedges.

Double sided tape, and fold it up.

I had same delimma. I have pretty foot Jewlery to wear bare feet on beach and 2 in wedge flip flops for reception. The seamstress asked me which I liked better. I left a little long for ceremony and once flips are in you can only see little bottom of them which is ok I didn't wAnt it too long on beach in fear of me falling or stepping on it up aisle. ; )

Double-sided tape! that's brilliant! thanks Valeria B.! @Mrs. D, I'm thinking of getting the barefoot sandals for myself and my girls for pictures, they are so pretty, but I'm not sure we'd ever wear them again.
