Bar blues

For those of you that are having an open bar in a venue that doesn’t necessarily have a “bar setup”, how are you setting up your alcohol? Are you just using a table to place your bottles and then having like a cooler for ice and mixers? Are you building a small bar to look more elegant?

Are you using a bartender? Often they will come with their own setup if you need it.

I am. I never knew they came with their own setup. I tried to think if I’ve ever been to a wedding that actually had alcohol and surprisingly as old as I am, I haven’t.

Most bartenders can bring a portable bar for a fee.

Contact your bartender and ask them if they have a portable set up. If not I'm sure they'll tell you what they need.

You can rent a portable bar.

We are going for fun over elevant. We're having a small casual outdoor wedding and have decided to fill a little canoe with ice, beer and wine. We will also have a cooler full of fresh ice as well as other cold drinks.

I’ll have to look and see if we have rentable bars in my area just in case my bartender doesn’t have a set up

I work in a restaurant and have done some catering. We recently catered an event, a rehearsal dinner, and the venue we catered at had a portable bar. It was really cute and functional. My co workers served the food and I bartended.

I took my own pour spouts for the bottles, shaker, ice scoop, and bottle opener. I also took my own ice and towels. I even brought lime juice, cut limes, straws and beverage napkins. They provided liquor, mixer, and beer. It was all in the contract- who would do what, so that all bases were covered and we weren't missing anything important.

Ohhh ok. This is all really good information because I promise you I wouldn’t have thought of any of that. Especially like the spouts and towels and stuff

It all depends on what you want to do. If you are having a bartender that can bring a setup. I used to work events and we would get a folding table and just place a table cloth over it. Wine bottles and glasses would be placed on it, the beers would be in coolers (liquor could be on the table too).
I was also at a wedding recently that had full bartenders but had coolers all over that had bottled beers in them for guests to grab whenever they needed them

I thought about the rectangle table with coolers for mixers and ice and beer. But I wasn’t sure if that would be tacky

For sure start by contacting your bartender and seeing if they bring their own set up. If they don't, I would check with your venue and see if they have a set up that either comes with the cost or can be rented. If that is also a no go, I would for sure think about building a cute little set up, or ordering one!

I’m going to talk to the venue today so it’ll definitely be on the list of conversation. Hopefully they’ll have a set up, but if not I’ve been shown some really awesome alternatives in this thread.

Hi Tranean! How did the conversation with the venue go? Do they have a set up you can rent or borrow? Did you check with your bartender also?

Mmmmmmm ok so update! We went and talked to that particular venue and I felt so uneasy about soooooo many things. I just felt like the lady was trying to be underhanded and promote herself and her “side businesses” rather than sell the space that I went with a totally different location.
