Ballroom dancing for our first dance

Trinity, on January 7, 2020 at 8:18 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

Hello All,

I am having a big problem with our first dance. My fiance and I live in different states, at least 3 hours by plane. We would like to do a little of ballroom dancing for our first dance. Any tips when should we start on this and how much does it usually cost, and how long do we have to practice for? We will move together 2 months before our wedding. I read that some people could take a year to practice a song. HELP!

You do not need to do a whole choreographed routine. 6-8 lessons of something in waltz time , 1 2 3,. 1 2 3 basic steps anyone can do, and get in rhythm. All those Vienna waltzes people think are gorgeous, are the same as modern waltzes, in rhythm and timing. And best done in a large ciecle around the floor. You can hold skirt up and be show and elegant. But no fancy steps to trip over each other's feet. Excellent beginner's showpiece. And have them teach you a couple of other not exotic dances, for dancing in a crowd. It is a good skill to have one show dance. But basic steps of most common others, so you can dance with 10 other people during the night, after the show dance, when not with each other. If you book a couple sessions when together, then each practise to video and home dance with a friend, then do lessons again several weeks later, it suits a 2 city commuting relationship.

We’re doing a choreographed dance (nothing super crazy) and our teacher recommended four lessons for us. We’re doing them in the 2 months before the wedding.

    Hey there, Trinity!

Have you found a choreographer for the dance where you two will be moving to? Have you asked him/her how long they think it will take you to learn that dance and if two months is enough?

Unfortunately not yet. That's a good suggestion. I will ask when I go visit my fiance next month. Thank you.
