Hi fellow brides: We’re having a small 30 people wedding on family property June 12th, 2021. We have a planner & are going to hire a caterer with staff. I really wanted to offer a baked potato bar for food. I think it would be awesome to have unlimited toppings, shrimp, meats, make a loaded baked potato or make one like a taco! Maybe also include sweet potatoes so guests have more options. Well, looking at pricing just for this is pretty high. I just want to ask if everyone would think this would be enough food to offer? I don’t want to skimp on filling up my guests. I can add a salad or another main course option, maybe? I’d love to hear your opinions!! xx

Me too! I think a bake potato sounds amazing, but if might not for someone that can't have diary. I can tell you my brother-in-law had a taco bar for his rehearsal dinner with about 30 people and people went back for several helpings because 1-2 tacos wasn't enough so I'd just make sure the potatoes are a good size and there are enough toppings for your guests not to be hungry following dinner.

Just a baked potato is not enough food. Especially for someone like me who doesn't hate baked potatoes, but also doesn't love them. I would leave hungry.

We are definitely having dessert & appetizers. I may look into having an alternative or addition to the potato bar! Thanks everyone for all the ideas

I love the idea! I would definitely add protein or something to pair with the potatoes. This would be more of an appetizer/cocktail hour food if you are having anything semi formal/traditional

Personally I'm not sure that this would be enough food as the main entree. I attended a work holiday party where a baked potato bar with a bunch of toppings was the main food, and everyone left pretty hungry. I'd plan to have some other food as well. If your reception is more of a casual afternoon thing though, then I think this plan would be fine. For the evening, I'd definitely add more food.

I'd definitely say this is really a "know your crowd" thing. FH would love a baked potato, but might not be filled with it. I honestly just don't really like baked potatoes so I would go hungry if there wasn't something else to munch on. But then my mom would be happy for a baked potato but could only actually eat about half of it. I would suggest having something else added, but if everyone in that group would be stoked on a baked potato AND consider it to be enough food then that might work out.

Have a cheap alternative. Most vegetarians I know eat eggs , few are vegans.
For something with one heavy and often fat filled YUM main course, I usually cook either a single big bowl egg custard ( just eggs, milk, sugar) or 3-5 custard pies , and a 2-3 quart bowl of yogurt, with ftuit on the side, with a note to request them. Most often, if you ask for single custard cups for sweet custards, or yogurt in cups, caterers charge like single entrees, a lot. But if you want a large bowl where you mix it, put it in the oven in a glass bowl, serving it from that bowl, or with yogurt simply take the tops off 3 quarts, $12 of yogurt, they charge $20-25 to fix both.
Particularly in hot weather, folks who think a potato bar a heavy choice, and diabetics and others watching specific things, and vegetarians, like tomake at least a dairy meal.
