An open plea to all those brides wanting a casual backyard wedding: This sucks. I just sent the past 2 days setting up a neighbor's driveway for a backyard wedding. The actual wedding itself was freezing, so everyone left early. The bride and groom were being cheap, so their caterer BBQ wedding dinner was freezing cold when I and other guests got the scraps of it and there were no alternatives for food. They didn't figure out music, so there was no processional and no dancing. Basically guests sat around in the dark shivering and hungry and board. Even the booze was the cheapest they could get. From a guest experience this was the worst. I seriously want to take some gifts back, I'm hungry, tired, and I have to order pizza because they didn't plan their menu or order enough food. This is after busting my ass to set up the entire site, set the entire bar and cocktail hour up and I ran around coordinating things. You might think you have this chill backyard vibe but it sucks

@Sassi B--not quite affluent but definitely stingy. They're "hippy" and don't think certain things should matter

@vero-g: take into consideration weather. Do you need to rent space heaters or fans? Do you have timely and ample direction for guests? Because without a DJ/MC no one knew WTF was going on and everyone was milling around confused. Also, do you have enough lighting? That ending up being a concern and why everyone left after 2 hours--no one could see anything

Just went to a wedding at an actual wedding venue this past weekend and froze my ass off all night. It was miserable! You would think a proper venue would have been prepared but they were not. The issue is not location, it is planning.

Hi, My son and his fiance want a wedding in our backyard in June in New Jersey. We are little nervous as our guest list is 320. We have big enough backyard but concerned about the weather. Tent company is assuring us in case of rain they can tent the walkway and with tent walls everything will remain dry. We will rent the restroom trailers. Looking for advice from someone who has been in similar situation.

Wow. This is tacky. Sorry. Have class. Maybe have you taught that their budget was low but wanted everyone to celebrate their love?
