Bachelor party = groomsmen, or more?

Matt, on December 3, 2016 at 5:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Hi guys, first post! Question: Do people usually invite more than the groomsmen to the "bachelor party"? I use scare quotes because, for me, we're not doing anything big. Just me and four buddies hanging out, probably hit a bar or a club or something, just see what we can get into. Personally, I'd like it to just be the four of us; I don't get to see these guys much, and I don't want attentions divided. However, there will be some other guys (FW's brother, etc.) who'll be around, and it'll be kinda obvious if I don't invite them. Again, I'd strongly prefer it to just be the groomsmen me, but I don't wanna be rude. Thoughts?

P.S.: My fiancee is Peruvian, and her whole fam. is flying in from Peru. So it might be even more obvious if, i.e., her brother weren't coming with us.

I would recommend being inclusive, especially with people who are becoming family. Is there another opportunity for you to get together with your four groomsmen (I.e. Dinner after tux rental appointment) but make the bachelor party a bigger group? You sound like a really considerate and thoughtful person and I think you'd regret leaving people out. Have fun!

I agree with the above. Set a separate time for just you & your groomsmen.

Indeed... I've been polling people IRL, and this seems to be the consensus view. Thanks guys. Smiley smile

I agree with PP, but you shouldn't be the one planning your bachelor party. That's your BM's choice as to whether or not to throw one.

Maybe do two nights? One with just the four, and another with everyone? But yeah not really for you to decide....

My fiance has been to a thousand bachelor parties and they pretty much all included a lot of their close friends (groomsmen plus all their other good friends who are all invited to the wedding). But you can decide who you want at your party.
