Average cost of photographer?

Krissy, on July 8, 2016 at 7:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

Hey all, my fiancé and I just booked our venue for our wedding next September. We want to jump into finding a photographer, but am getting some mixed reviews about "average" cost for a wedding photographer. I think I'd trust people on here more than the photographer telling me what to expect to pay. I'm sure they're being truthful, but would like an unbiased opinion. We're in western Massachussets so any advice in this area would be best, but all advice is appreciated!!

Depends on the type of photography in addition to where you are. However in NH I find the average to be about $2k for the photojournalistic candid photographers I was looking at. Thankfully the photographer I hired who was originally about $2,800 for the package I got but has a 30%off peak discount. She's amazing!

I would definitely expect anywhere between $2,000 and $3,000.

I am in North Cal. So...i would say average is ****. My FH loves photography and according to him... those charging 6k+ take awesome pictures and those 1.5k are crappy (he could do a better job which I agree with)... So you pay for what you get.

Paid $5900 for two shooters for eight hours - with one hour engagement shoot, online gallery, and rights, but no albums or prints. Our photographers have a fairly distinct look though.

ETA: Los Angeles area - I always forget that part... Also our engagement was only six months long, so we didn't really shop around.

We got an amazing deal and he's giving us a discount so we are only paying $1100 but it seems more like 2-4K is the average

We're in NYC and paying $400/hour. Our photographer was one of the less expensive photographers we looked at.

I live near DC so its closer to $3-$5k. We are going to fly our photographer in and she will be there for the rehearsal dinner and the entire wedding for less than $3k.

I'm in Ohio. The particular quote I'm considering is about $1,600 for two shooters, and the full day.

We paid $5900. It was a lot, but we budgeted to spend more on our photography. We didn't want to go cheap on our photos.

We spent a lot. $5900 for 8 hours and a second shooter (Philly). Thumb drive included but no albums or prints. He is money well spent.

@Krissy, I'm in Western MA too! My photographer is $1,500 for 7 hours, 2nd shooter, engagement session and all the rights. I did a TON of research and for what we're getting its a great deal. She does really amazing work, her name is Jamie Beth Photographer it's her and her husband out of West Springfield. If you need any advice I'd be happy to chat with you, I interviewed a TON of people. I'd say average was more like $2,500-$4,000 for 7 hours.
