Average cake/dessert budget

Emma, on August 22, 2019 at 2:16 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 10
I have no clue how to budget for a cake/dessert. I know we want to do cupcakes which average $2 to $5 each. But I'm looking to also add a small cake to cut. What's an average price or reasonable price for one?

I think we got an amazing deal on a one tier cake to cut and 4 dozen cupcakes. The total was $175. We have since decided to add another dozen so I'll be paying a bit more but still, totally reasonable in my opinion.

A lot will depend on your area, and whether you go with a specialty bakery, a grocery store, Wal-Mart, etc.

We are going with just a one-tier cake for the cutting ceremony, and then a dessert table. I am going to bake and decorate the small cake myself, as I do a lot of baking, and this is an easy way to save money.

We haven't picked our dessert person yet, but plan to spend up to $750 on the desserts.

We went with a local bakery. We got a small 2 tier cake (8in and 6in tiers) for $165 and cake squares for our guests (180 servings) for about $200. We also had to pay a delivery fee for them to deliver it to our venue. It was about $450 total.

We're getting cupcakes from a local cupcake shop (prices range from $30 - $36 per dozen) and adding on a 6" cutting cake for $30. Our cost for 9 dozen cupcakes, the cutting cake, delivery and setup, and use of their cake stands is just under $560.

We spent $1,000ish for 125 people for a mini dessert bar. That was cheaper than cake, which was a minimum of $5.75 per serving.

If you have a local grocery store I would check with them! We did ours from Albertsons (not sure if you have one of those) but we got a 6” cake to cut and 48 cupcakes of various types for $50 🤷🏻‍♀️

My local area had a small cake to cut for $65 and cupcakes starting price was $1.50 each, it would be more for decorations though. We didn’t go this route because we chose a tiered cake but the price was a big consideration!
