August Wedding in Oregon.

My Fiancé and I are getting married August 8, 2020, on his parents property in Oregon. My FH and I currently live in Montana so it’s already stressful enough planning from another state. We originally had 180 guests on the list and after talking we were going to try to cut the guest list a little bit. Well, yesterday the Oregon governor came out with the phases and how opening the state would be started. They stated that there would be no large gatherings until probably September, but then used examples such as concerts, the fair, and live sporting events. There were no numbers given at what classifies a “large gathering”, I feel like there’s a big difference between a 180 person guest list and the number of people at a concert. I was able to cut 35 people off my guest list, my FH was able to cut 4 friends, and my FMIL said they had cut their friend guest list way down before giving us the list. I have a small family, I damn near have nobody on my part of the list other than maybe 15 family members and my 6 bridesmaids and their spouses and I think 10 more people total. I don’t know what to do. My FH said we would tell him parents that their list needs cut before ours, but I am so overwhelmed. I slept about an hour and a half last night, and when I did sleep I had dreams about Covid. I don’t know what to do, and I can’t imagine not sleeping the next 3 months. Part of me really wants to be like we’ll invite everyone and whoever shows up, shows up. I just feel so lost.. 😭

    I think it's safe to assume that anything over 50 will be considered a "large gathering," although it could be up to 100 in some areas. If your date is important to you, I would start looking for ways to cut the guest list way down. If not, I would explore options like postponing.

    We have the same wedding date. It's so stressful. The pandemic is inconvenient for everyone but I can't think of a worse year for it to happen. We haven't postponed yet as our venue won't let us make the call until June. However, we will be postponing for sure as we decided last night no matter what we still won't feel comfortable gathering. It comes down to a safety thing. We want to be able to hug our guests and to dance. I don't foresee either of those happening this year. We still plan to get married on our original date with a group of 10 (if possible). Feel free to PM me if you ever want. We share the same date so we are in the same situation. Our wedding was to be over 250 people.

    Yeah I just hate that she didn't give any approximate numbers, because I really do feel like the number of people at a concert or fair is way different that a wedding guest list. With Bridal party and their spouses, and IMMEDIATE family only we are at like 41 people, that is no aunts, uncles, cousins, just parents, siblings and grandparents. So I think my FH is going to tell his mom we either just invite everyone and whoever feels comfortable going will go, or it will be just the immediate family and bridal party.

    Thank you! I will definitely keep you in mind when looking for guidance! We really don't want to postpone, but we also know that if we have to then we have to. I already am a stress ball without Covid, so I'm sure you can imagine how I am with Covid. I've worked so hard for this wedding, I've lost 63 pounds and just want everything to be perfect, it sucks.

    I live in OR and little things are literally just starting to open up. With that being said, the governor is being cautious because people might flock to the parks, beaches, hiking trails, and back into the city. Our case numbers are low, and we apparently have enough medical supplies for hospitals... but it’s looking like a very slow return to normal. Currently, my tentative ‘phasing back into work’ date is June 13. Even then, we were instructed that it would be a slow transition in once we receive PPE.
    I agree that keeping the list under 50 would be the best thing you can do at this moment.

    I really don’t want to cut it by that much, so we’ll see how it is in June and decide if we need to postpone. I can’t imagine just having 50 people there and not our entire family..

    We were August 7th in Hood River. Reopening in Oregon is county by county and can go backwards in phases if cases surge. Before the reopening guidance was released we had already decided to postpone. Regardless of the allowed group size we were more concerned with the safety of our guests. Not to mention how does one have a ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner (buffet style?) and dancing with social distancing? We also have several guests traveling from throughout the NW and staying the whole weekend as we room blocked the venue (also a hotel) from Thursday-Saturday. I’m not really sure how people feel about air travel right now or in the coming months. We haven’t rebooked yet but plan on marrying at the courthouse on our original date.

    I did not watch her press conference. I see several countries starting phase 1 which is great! We’ve already postponed. We just didn’t feel confident in having a large wedding this summer. We’ll try again in the Spring!
