August Brides and Covid

Tiffany, on June 6, 2020 at 3:06 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 28
Curious to know what brides are doing for their weddings that are taking place in August. Particularly brides is metropolitan areas with larger weddings. I'm in Maryland, in the DC suburbs and we have a guest list of 200. So far my venue thinks they can host our wedding by August 29th but everything will be super spaced out probably. What is everyone else hearing from their venues?

I would recommend coming up with a backup plan. I live in Maryland and Governor Hogan is currently only allowing gatherings of 10 or less. We moved into phase two yesterday and I believe it is supposed to last much longer than phase one. Also, it is county by county as to what they are allowing. Who knows what will be going on in August.

Yes I am planning a backup up now. Regardless we are going to gwr married and celebrate whenever. I am in PG and we are still not in phase two my guess will be we will enter in the next 1-2 weeks. Everything is such a guessing game at this point. I am going to wait til the end of the month to make the final call

Unfortunately, we once you are in phase two you can't have more than ten people so even if PG County moves to phase two in 1-2 weeks who knows how long we will be in phase two or even what phase three looks like.

We're in MoCo right outside of DC and honestly gatherings here are still all being postponed/cancelled from what I can tell. The county gov. is keeping us pretty tight here because of the DC rates. My work place hasn't even started our first stage of reopening yet. Do you have a backup plan?

    Hi!

I’m also in Maryland with a wedding date of August 29th. My venue will not let me postpone or pick a back up date. Despite moving to Phase 2, which if you notice our phases seem to have phases we haven’t fully moved into it yet. Still being on phase 2 like others have mentioned we still can’t have more than 10 people. He has said phase 2 will be longer. I don’t think he’s going to allow large gatherings for quite awhile. I’m hoping my venue lets me postpone soon.

I live in a big city, but luckily my venue is 45 minutes south in a smaller county with a lot less restrictions. We invited 200 but are expecting around 100-125. My venue said as of right now, we would be allowed to have that many with precautions/social distancing in place. They are starting to have weddings again at the end of June.

We kept our 70 guest list, but Texas is kind of a free for all right now. Our wedding of about 50 should be fine in August, but we'll see

Hey all! I'm in MD but getting married in VA. I was adamant about holding onto our date a few months ago on these forums because I was being optimistic BUT it just does not seem safe. Our venue finally gave us the option to postpone. We're weighing our options based on other things that they told us, but I think we might postpone.

I'm in LA. Our wedding was originally in mid-march, we had to cancel 5 days out and rescheduled to August 9th. But this week we decided to postpone again to next March. Even if, by some miracle, we were technically allowed to have our wedding in August, it wouldn't be the wedding we wanted (i.e. would have to have a shorter guest list, everyone wearing masks, etc.). Plus, we had family members get COVID-19 on their way out for our original wedding date, before we had to cancel. So we just didn't think the risk is worth it. If I were you, I would at the very least have a backup plan, but postponing is probably wiser at this point.

I'm outside of Boston and I wrote a whole thing on why we decided to postpone. It's here in case you're interested:

We invited 160 people and the venue is mostly outside. In Massachusetts we'll probably be in the phase where outdoor weddings are technically allowed with social distancing, but we didn't know that when it was time to make a choice (so we could order invitations). Our venue emailed us to give us options a few weeks ago. Before that, they were pretty much saying they didn't think they'd have to cancel any August weddings.

We are in Ohio on 8/22, and just got word from our venue that we are good to go! We do have minimal restrictions, but overall things are manageable. 50% capacity which is only 16 ppl less than our guest list so I think we will be ok. Getting excited again! 75 days to go!

We’re getting married in Arlington VA on 8/9. I’ve already postponed once. My venue has been sounding hopeful. They said they are most likely following the restaurant rules of 50% capacity and the room holds 300 and we invited less than 150. They said if we need to we could split up family and friends to have two or three smaller groups of people for dinner. Basically they may have to set up seating for social distancing. We have a meeting with them tomorrow so I’m hoping to find out more.

I'm getting married August 29 in southeast PA, so near Philly which is a major hotspot. The counties here recently turned Yellow phase, so that means still social distancing, and no large gatherings more than 25 permitted. I've been keeping up with the news from my county and the neighboring ones, and the plan is to go Green by the end of June. In Green phase, we can have indoor dining at 50% capacity (and my wedding/reception is indoors). If we are Green by the end of June, there is no way I'm postponing my wedding!

Keep us posted on what the venue plans! Im curious how different venues will be handling weddings. PG and NOVA seem to be very similar in their reopening strategies so far

Just the same as the Ohio bar standards. Tables must be 6 feet apart and no more than 10 to a table. My venue is also a community center so there’s no staff Provided. Therefore, it’s up to us to keep people distanced. We have to sign a hold harmless agreement to use the venue. I’m pretty sure everyone gets it now though. Our vendors will also help and it’ll all work out!
