At Home Reception after Destination Wedding???

Help!!! We are having a destination wedding in Florida and are also wanting to do a celebration/reception back home in Kansas when we get back from our honeymoon for all of our friends and family that could not make it to the destination wedding. What is everyone' thoughts on wearing my wedding dress at the back home reception? At first I thought it sounded weird but you do spend a lot of $ on it... Also, do you do everything from first first dance to cutting the cake or is it more of a relaxed schedule?

I would definitely attend a local party to celebrate a close friend's wedding! I would probably prefer it have a more relaxed schedule and feel than a formal wedding reception. I'd be eager to get to chat with the couple so if you were doing all the reception formalities then you wouldn't have much time to talk and mingle.

We are having a DW and my mom said my family members that can't make it want to have something in AR when I am home for my high school reunion in May. It will be similar to a cake and punch reception and my Grandma has requested I wear my dress so I don't really have a problem with it and I have no idea if the wedding video will be shown, maybe a small clip? And there will definitely be no dances or anything like that! Again I'm not really planning it. We have thought about doing a celebration in our local home, but it would be something more like Ceclia decribed with no wedding related items, more like a house party. But that is still undecided. I can see how it looks gift grabby, but since I think I am having the at home celebration with my family I can also see how it is nice to be able to celebrate with those who weren't able to come.
