Asking people not to take photos or videos at your wedding

2ndtime1stwedding, on July 10, 2017 at 10:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

Has anyone done that and had success? Has anyone had people do it regardless of you asking not to.

No photos/videos of you, partner, BP, venue, set ups, decor, ceremony, events etc

Of course people want selfies and such with a pretty outfit or nice scenery. But anything beyond that is a no go.

Ceremony or reception? You definitely can't expect people to not take any photos at the reception.

ETA: don't treat your guests like children.

I think it is perfectly acceptable to request this during the actual ceremony. But the reception is free reign for photos and such...just my take on things

I have seen lots of these signs of "we hired someone to take pics so no taking pics" type things. I have also seen photog contracts where it's required the bride groom inform guests no pics while they are taking pics.

Imagine smaller venue where a guest stands behind your hired pro and takes the same group shot on their phone and posts it to social media 10 min later.

We've requested this of our guests as well. Completely plugged off wedding. No pics at neither ceremony nor rehearsal. They completely understand.

I've only ever heard of this for the ceremony. Honestly, I think asking guests to not take pictures during the reception is rude. The ceremony is one thing but let your guests be adults.

People do this for ceremonies, but not the reception. Doing this for the reception will make you sound like a crazy person.

I saw someone on FB post some pics from a large wedding they went to this weekend. Younger couple. Guess they had their own snap chat filters and such too. BUTTTT some of the pics posted by my friend-a guest-were not fabulous pictures and unflattering of the bride. There were some of ceremony and mostly at reception.

I imagine that's what most people want to avoid. Pics where you are eating, making a weird face, adjusting your dress.

Definitely considering it for our ceremony but not for reception.

Ceremony part because, I do not want to see my pro pics taking pictures of people taking pictures...ahhhh!!

Reception absolutely because maybe guests will get a great moment on camera that your photographer doesn't..

You're concerned about someone posting a picture of you being a normal human being? You can't control everything and honestly you will just stress yourself out trying to. This is ridiculous.

@2ndtime1stwedding it's listed on our website and communicated to them face to face. 95% of our guests are local so I've chatted with everyone and they know. Word of mouth also spread cause I had people reach out to me to confirm and after explaining our reasons they were like "oh, well that makes sense."

OP, you do what you think is best for you. The reason you stated above is exactly why we're going unplugged

" I imagine that's what most people want to avoid. Pics where you are eating, making a weird face, adjusting your dress."

Actually, no, that isn't why people do this. People have unplugged weddings because they don't want people getting in the way of the photographer during the CEREMONY. It's incredibly rude to tell your guests no photos during reception and I guarantee anyone who wants to respect your rule will simply leave your reception. You can't treat adults like children and think it's okay.

Or maybe the whole unplugged aspect as being with the people around you enjoying everyone instead of glued to phones? Maybe that's what some people are trying to get at? Like some people do that when they go to dinner with friends... 1st one to pull out a phone pays the bill. It's about enjoying the moment.

You can't force people to enjoy your wedding. Let people be adults and stop worrying about things you can't control.

Our ceremony officiant is making an announcement at the beginning of our ceremony. We might also include a sign. "Welcome to our unplugged ceremony".

We were at a wedding that had a sign specifically saying "we are having an unplugged ceremony, please no photos" and a lady in my row stepped in the aisle and took a pic with her phone and posted the blurry poor quality photo on fb during the reception which was literally the opposite of what the bride wanted because the photo was poor quality, unflattering, and she spent a lot of money on a professional photographer

Not wanting your guests to take photos during the ceremony is one thing, but to request that no pictures are taken during the reception just seems unreasonable, rude, and uptight. Your guests should be able to enjoy themselves and this does not seem enjoyable, sorry!

Rude or not (all opinion btw) it's still happening at my wedding.
