As a Guest, Do You Prefer Keg or Bottled Beer?

I apologize for the silly question. I'm bored and this lunch I brought is not very good so I'm avoiding it.

Our venue accommodates kegs, but they recommend bottles because it's faster to pop off a bottle cap than to fill a glass from a keg. FH likes the idea of a keg for one beer (like a Great Lakes) and a more popular beer (like Yuengling or Bug Light) in a bottle, so we can save money. I'm less concerned about the money and more concerned about the guests. I don't want people waiting forever to get their drinks. The venue only staffs two bartenders and our guest list is around 220. I don't know if there is a different taste between the two options. I don't drink beer, so I'm leaving it up to FH to decide. But thought I would ask what you guys think. Have you been to a wedding with a keg? Was it slow service? Do you think it tastes better than bottles? Opinions appreciated.

Thanks!

I definitely prefer beer on draught from a guest's perspective however you will save money by buying bottles. Most kegs are actually more expensive with more waste.

Keg beer takes me back to college, but honestly I don't think it takes more time to pour a beer from a keg than to make a vodka tonic, or pour a glass of wine. The only wedding I've been to with a keg was fine, at the end of the night though the FOB was running around handing out beer to everyone because "it's all been paid for!!!".

    OH BIG PS.

If you get bottles, Magic Hat requires a bottle opener Smiley smile

Wow, lots of opinions on this! Thanks, everyone. Seems like when the time comes, we will just buy bottles. Our friend group always has a huge Halloween party (thrown by me) and a large Christmas party, in addition to almost weekly game nights in the winter. So any leftover bottled beer will definitely be taken care of quickly after! We also hold a "Beer Olympics" (not lately because fuddy-duddies seem to be having kids and never showing up anywhere! lol) and a keg is purchased for that. This last time they didn't even finish a beer. I think everyone is slowing down with age Smiley smile Cherry Vodka Sprite is my drink!

And thanks Rachel Kay - I'd like to think the bar is already stocked with a bottle opener, but doesn't hurt to ask! Smiley smile

For me, it is not about the difference in taste... it is about pictures.

I HATE the way beer bottles look in photos of "classier" events (such as weddings). All of our beverages were served in glasses. For that reason, I might lean toward a keg as it completely eliminates the bottles as an option. :-)
