Arm/back workout suggestions for strapless dress

Victoria, on March 13, 2016 at 9:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

So I just tried my dress on again tonight to see if any of my work at the gym has paid off... Well it hasn't. My biggest concern is my arms/back otherwise I thought I was fine but then my mom and grandmother were going on about how I need to lose some in my stomach/hip area too or get spanks in addition to the corset! I still love my dress but with all the not so great feed back they gave me I feel super self conscious. My wedding isn't still September so I have plenty of time to work on those problem areas. Any suggestions of specific work outs to help these areas? I go to a crunch gym and attend classes if anyone has class suggestions too that would be awesome (I do bosu and chisel now).

Posted pictures to help you see what I'm talking about with the arms.... I think the stomach/hip area is fine but I posted a picture of that too.

All you can do is keep working out and eat healthy. There is no way to workout and choose where the weight comes off. You look great in the dress as you are. Everyone criticize themselves harshly sometimes and I think that is what you are doing. Try not to let your mom's comments get you down.

Is that your dress or the sample? If yours have your had fittings yet? I ask because it doesn't look like it fits quite right at the hips.

That spot at the top is hard for most people. Drink tons of water and try to avoid salt and that will help right there. It's a lovely dress! Once you're all done with fitting you'll look great.

3lb weights. There are a lot of workouts listed on YouTube or google for toning arms with weights. There are even easy 15 min ones to do while even watching tv. You'll get results if you're consistent.

That said, your dress is beautiful, do what will make you feel comfortable and beautiful on your big day!

ETA: Yes: you can target specific muscle groups to tone.

Check out the app sworkit. It's been great for me!! Also fir that bit above the top of your dress at the bosom, try wide push-ups and triangle push-ups. They are hard! But it works!!

Do you have a gym membership? We have a planet fitness here in town for $10 a month. There are plenty of machines that target the areas you are concerned about, and they all have handy pictures on them of the muscle groups the machine works! But yes you most definitely can tone/choose certain areas of your body to lose weight!

I forgot to add that a good at home workout is bent over flys: Hold a dumbbell in each hand and bend over at your hips. Then, draw your arms out to each side, raising them to shoulder height. Do 2 or 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps. In addition to cardio you will be toned in no time!

@Natalie I agree with you being over critical of myself is a major issue.

@Reggie it is mine. They said I don't need altered because of the corset back. I think when we get closer I'm going to bring it to the same place my girls are getting their dressed altered and see if she thinks it needs to be let out anywhere.

Yes I have a gym membership I go to Crunch Gym. I take classes that focus on the different muscle groups and if I don't do a class I do cardio. I will start to add the other exercises into the routine or when I'm just hanging out watching TV!

I'm using a strapless backless adhesive bra, it helps to pull together your breasts and automatically shrinks the armpit bulge. That being said, the back spilling over and subsequently the breast/anxillary region, means your dress is probably one size too small. The best way to have a mermaid or trumpet style fit in all the right places, is to get a dress that fits you in the hips, then let the seamstress go to work, fitting the dress to your curves.

@stephanie j wonder if they sized me wrong for the corset ? It's tight and I thought that's the way it was suppose to be but its borderline uncomfortable because even with the back laced up I have room in the dress but no room in the corset even on the last hooks.

For the hips DB said that it was fine and I didn't need alterations but maybe I do.... When should I bring the dress for alterations? Wedding is 9/3

You can't pick and chose where your body will lose fat. You can focus on those areas but there's no guarantee. If I were you, I'd get a session with a trainer who specializes in weight training or resistance training. They can help you develop a program that you can do on your own at the gym. They will show you the proper way to do them so you don't injure yourself.

Can't remember her name but she does a arm workout on YouTube and on the Rourke it has batwing. Easy workouts but effective. When I was doing them I went from a bra band of 40 to 38. Do them about 4 times a week.

For your back: rowing rowing rowing. I saw you have a gym, but here are some free weight ways to do rowing motions without a row machine.

While you can't pick where you loose fat you can focus on specific muscle groups. The only time I've even gotten rid of the armpit thing I was lifting heavy. Chest flies and chest presses. I'd pay for one trainer session and tell them what your goal is.

First off, you look great! "Skinny Mom" (I found her blog on Pinterest) posts great exercises that target "arm flab" and "bra bulge" among others! Smiley smile

You can make your "problem areas" more muscular, but there is no way to concentrate fat loss on particular areas. All you can do is to lose weight everywhere.

And wedding planning is typically not the best time to lose weight. You have more stress eating, and less time to exercise, then. I'd focus on getting the dress to look right with your existing figure (maybe adding a bolero or sleeves to help with the back and arm thing?), rather than trying to adjust your figure to look right with the dress.

So three months before the wedding I thought my back was looking flabby, just like your picture, even. I started doing cardio and strength training 4 days a week, with two of those days focusing on my arms and upper back, and this is a picture of me at the wedding.

I use FitnessBlender.com, and here's a few links to my favorite workouts.

But keep in mind, you will look beautiful no matter what! Smiley smile
