Arm Hair---to shave or leave alone?

WeAreOne0822, on September 29, 2014 at 11:38 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I have hair on my arms as I suspect a lot of us do...but mine is dark...and fine. It has never bothered me before. I'm only asking now because of photos...will it be super noticeable in photos that have close up shots of my hands/arms?

I have never shaved my arms. What do you all recommend? Shave? Wax (ugh, I have the worst pain tolerance level ever)? Do I even bother?

Thanks!! :-)

See how much it would be get it lasered (which you have to shave off to do anyway). You can also try a At home laser treatment.

I have fine but dark hair also, and I would just leave it...you think it's noticeable, but I doubt it really is. If you're really adamant about getting rid of it, wax, don't shave! you wouldn't want 5 o'clock shadow in your pics!

I am 100% in the same boat as you. My hair is super dark and I've never shaved it. I don't even really WANT to because then I'll have to deal with the upkeep of it afterwards. I'm still iffy on whether or not I want to lose it for the wedding, but I will say that you can't even see it in my engagement photos. Some of the super close up pictures you can make out that there MIGHT be something there, because there's a slight shade difference, but it's not like "LOOK AT MY ARM HAIR!" Now that I've seen that, I am leaning more towards not removing it since it won't be seen in my pictures and everyone knows what I look like in real life. Still deciding.

I use nair once in a while, shave sometimes as well. my hair is all blond but i like them smooth, even before i was heavily tattooed. i wouldnt imagine it would be an issue for photos, but since you have time, try out nair type solutions. i do half the arm, wait, rinse then the other half. instead of coating both arms, cus it quickly can cause chemical burns. waxing isnt as terrible as you'd think and would, just like nair, keep them smooth longer. shaving works, but cuts around elbows & wrists will ruin photos and if you get goosebumps, you'll have prickly arms.

I would suggest waxing, (it lasts longer), or Nair like AndiXLyn suggested. If you go the Nair route, do a small test patch on your arm first to see if you have any reactions to it.

My arm hair gets dark in the winter. I bleach it. I don't remember the name of the product, but I get it at CVS for like $5. You put it on your arm hair for 10 minutes and it turns it blonde. The stuff itches, but it's worth it.

ETA: I just remembered that it's called Jolen.

I have the Greek heritage in me and I feel ya. I definitely went through a self conscious stage with it but I am leaving it...it did not bother me in my engagement pics and most people do not notice that (you are your worst criticSmiley winking

My friend was contemplating this when she got married as well, but she realized that only she notices it - it didn't show up in any of her engagement or bridal portraits, so she decided against doing anything.

If you haven't taken engagement photos yes, trying looking at past pictures of yourself (both close up and far away) to see if you notice it. If you can't, I don't think it would be worth the hassle.

You do have time if you want to try it. I was a swimmer my whole life and still teach. I do still to this day. I have shaved my arms for 8 years and never had a problem. I have super dark, thin hair on my arms and i only have to shave every couple days. I would try maybe a small spot and see? Laser hair removal is expensive and doesnt always take effect the way you want it to. You could also try bleach and wax. Waxing will last longer

Please leave it! if it bothers you that much, wear gloves to cover it or have it altered in your pictures.

I shaved mine a while back, and until it grew out I had the worst problems with pimples and bleeding hives! all is healed now, and the marks left look a bit like freckles and keep fading. but believe me, the arm hair is far more attractive then what I had on my arms for months!

think the hives and all were a result of many factors, but they started after I shaved, and stayed around until the hair came back. hard to argue a connection! don't do it!

I am brunette and my skin is pretty pail so my arm hair is noticeable, but you really can't tell in pictures. I would leave it alone. It's going to be more hassle than it's worth when it starts growing back in all prickly.

Thanks everyone for sharing your personal "hair" stories. Mine is dark, but very fine and again it's never bothered me until I started thinking about up close pictures! I may just leave it. I don't want to mess or deal with it...I'll check past photos and see how noticeable it is.

I just rock mine. It use to bother me when I was younger and I would bleach it. But now, I've accepted it as part of my heritage and just let it be. I didn't notice any in my pictures, but there were no super close ups of my arms. And chances are, your photographer will use a filter and it will not be noticeable.
